Jackson suffered a setback last week, and he once again missed practice again today. Not only is Jackson out for this week, but speculation is already starting that he’s out of the Redskins’ 2016 plans, with the Washington Post’s Mike Jones reporting that the team will likely cut him in the offseason.
While it might seem early to be discussing 2016, the Redskins are 2-4 and seemingly going nowhere. What it means for anyone counting on Jackson coming back is that the ‘Skins aren’t going to rush him back. Jones isn’t pulling the Jackson speculation out of thin air, and if the Redskins are already thinking about this, that means that they will be spending time looking at players that are in their future.
Sure, one could read this as their not worrying too much about his future value and getting him on the field at all costs, but why would they? Would he somehow help with a nonexistent playoff push? Even more than the injury, Jones’ reporting says that it’s safe to give up on Jackson saving your team, because the Redskins already have.
