Seattle Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham has been one of the biggest disappointments in fantasy football this season. Graham is used to being in the conversation with Rob Gronkowski as the best tight end in fantasy over the last few years but his value has dropped dramatically. In just one season, Graham has gone from Drew Brees’ top target on the New Orleans Saints to a glorified pass blocker in Seattle following the blockbuster trade.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll acknowledged the lack of touches and stated he’d love to get the ball in Graham’s hands more. This is promising news for fantasy owners of Graham as he’s still extremely talented and should be Russell Wilson’s favorite receiving target. We will need to see it before we believe it as Seattle’s use of Graham has been more offensive than reading the twitter mentions of a famous politician.
Through the first five games of the season, Graham is averaging just 5.4 targets per game as the Seahawks fail to develop a successful passing game. It’s now or never for Seattle to implement Graham into the game plan as the team is off to a poor 2-3 start. While Marshawn Lynch’s injuries contribute to the disappointing early record, the inability to utilize Graham will need to be corrected more than anything else. This week’s matchup against Carolina will give a good insight into if Seattle is being honest about wanting to feature Graham more as they face the undefeated Panthers. Graham’s playmaking skills will be needed in the pivotal game.
