Dion Lewis: Here to Stay

Dion Lewis had another stellar game for the New England Patriots, turning 11 targets into eight receptions into 59 yards and an amazing Houdini-like touchdown, with six carries for 34 yards (5.6 YPC).

Lewis continues to show that he is an elusive talent, making four Cowboys' defenders miss on his way into the end zone today. While LeGarrette Blount did get a decent amount of work today out of the backfield, the Patriots were out to a commanding lead towards the latter part of the game. With the Cowboys applying pressure early and often against Tom Brady and the Patriots' tackles, Lewis was able to be Brady's safety valve. There always seems to be a reason for Lewis to be relevant, whereas Blount seems to be put in for running clock and with big leads.

The biggest test will be next week as the Patriots take on the Indianapolis Colts. Many people will remember that the Patriots ran it down the Colts' throat with Jonas Gray for four touchdowns last year in true between the tackles dominance. Blount is that guy this year for the Patriots, so it'll be very interesting to see if they attack the Colts in the same way or if Lewis also gets a decent amount of looks thanks to his performance. If Lewis does well next week, he is officially matchup proof beyond any doubt moving forward, even with Bill Belichick's mystique at the helm. The only question seems to be whether his small frame can handle a full season's workload, but if it does he looks like a permanent fixture for New England's backfield.
