Devonta Freeman of the Atlanta Falcons has busted out in a huge way. The first two weeks of the season, Freeman split carries with rookie running back Tevin Coleman and only managed 22 carries for 43 yards for an abysmal 1.95 yards per carry.
Following Coleman's rib injury that has sidelined him for the past two weeks, Freeman has set the fantasy football world ablaze. As the feature back , Freeman was fantasy football's top running back in weeks 3 and 4, with 44 carries for 209 yards (4.75 yards per carry) and a whopping six touchdowns.
Tevin Coleman was limited in Wednesday's practice according to ESPN.com. Before his rib fracture, Coleman showed a lot of promise (29 carries for 112 yards and 1 touchdown), but now that Freeman has found his groove, it would be hard to imagine Coach Dan Quinn relinquishing his lead running back's duties. If Coleman can play, consider Freeman a mid-end RB1 option against the Redskins at home, with Coleman potentially stealing away some of his thunder as a change of pace back. As long as Coleman sits out though, Freeman owners should feel extremely confident moving him right up into elite RB1 status.
