Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said today he will look to continue to give Chris Johnson 15-20 touches even upon Ellington's return, due to Johnson's high octane performance last week. After a pedestrian performance in week two (20 carries for 72 yards, 3.6 yards per carry), Johnson showed us shades of CJ2K and broke out with a boisterous 22 carries for 110 and 2 TD. Exactly 5.0 yards per carry.
At this point, Andre Ellington is still listed as questionable to play in week four as he continues to recover from a PCL sprain in his knee.
There are two scenarios to consider based on Bruce Arians' comments:
1) If Ellington is a no go for this week, consider Chris Johnson a low-end RB1 (even against a stellar St. Louis Rams defense) as he will continue to carry a high workload. Rookie David Johnson (no relation) should be considered a change of pace back and potential "Home Run" threat, but not worthy of a start just yet.
2) If Ellington plays, consider Chris Johnson a low-end RB2. Ellington more than likely would be a RB flex option as he works his way back from his injury.
