Week 3 Tight End (TE) Rankings Analysis
By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)
Jordan Reed has had two strong games already and I expect that to continue. The Giants gave up three touchdowns to tight ends in Week 1, and then allowed 77 yards to Jacob Tamme, which was the most yards Tamme has put up in one game in over two full seasons. Expect Reed to be targeted heavily once again. He makes a strong play in all formats but is especially a must-start in PPR leagues.
I definitely haven’t given up on Jimmy Graham, but I have lowered him to TE5 this week. He had just two targets last week which is surprising, even though we know the Seahawks aren’t going to force the ball to him. I won’t be shocked if he has a big bounce-back game this week, but he is no longer the obvious #2 TE behind Gronk.
Delanie Walker is another player I feel good about. Tennessee tight ends have been targeted heavily in the first two weeks. With Walker out last week two separate tight ends saw 5+ targets including Anthony Fasano’s 5-84-1 line. Assuming Walker plays he should see a healthy number of targets and make a very nice play.
I’m low on Martellus Bennett and I’m looking to avoid him if I can. With Jimmy Clausen expected to start this week (against Seattle no less), I’m really avoiding the Bears as a whole outside of Matt Forte. This is probably going to be a very ugly game offensively. Someone will probably get a receiving touchdown but I don’t want to try and guess who that is.
I’m not getting overly excited about Crockett Gillmore. His two-touchdown week seems more fluky than anything. For what it’s worth, the Bengals have only allowed 52 total yards to tight ends through two games with no touchdowns.
