Tiered Standard Wide Receiver Rankings for 2015 Fantasy Football

As we continue through through the 2015 fantasy football draft season, our updated tiered rankings columns are wrapping up. We've already published lots of awesome fantasy football rankings & analysis throughout the entire preseason, for all positions. And over the course of this week, we have been releasing our updated tiered fantasy football rankings.

Today we wrap up the tiers series with our tiered wide receiver standard rankings for the 2015 season, along with analysis by Zach Wilkins. You can also find our tiered wide receiver PPR rankings, if that's your league setting. The below RotoBaller staff consensus rankings take the average of our lead columnists, and separate the WRs into color-coded tiers. Grouping wide receivers into tiers is a very good strategy to prepare for your drafts, and it should help you to quickly identify similarly valued players when it's crunch time. Now let's get to it.

Wide Receiver (WR) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkins (@LopsidedTrades)

At the top of my list, I don’t differ much from the consensus. Once we get into WR2 territory that changes. Jeremy Maclin is the earliest player I am much higher on the consensus. I have Maclin firmly in WR2 territory at WR17. I think he is a very talented receiver and I think Alex Smith IS capable of getting him the ball plenty. I’m not as afraid of the Chiefs passing game as some others are.

I then have Larry Fitzgerald at WR22, eight spots above his consensus. He was still a star when Carson Palmer was throwing the ball, it’s just a matter of Palmer’s health. I’m pretty confident Fitz will remain a fantasy WR2 as long as that is the case. Mike Wallace is another guy I am high on at WR25. He has never finished outside the top 30, and I actually like the fit with Teddy Bridgewater. I think Bridgewater might be more successful with Wallace than Tannehill was.

One guy I am low on is Keenan Allen at WR24. He actually saw more targets in his second season, but just wasn’t as efficient. With Malcom Floyd around, Allen stopped seeing a lot of deep targets. Floyd is still around and Stevie Johnson in the mix as well, so I don’t see a return of deep targets for Allen. I expect more of last year than his rookie year unfortunately.

Amari Cooper is another guy I am low on. It’s not that I don’t like him - I do think he’s a special player - but I’d definitely rather take an established player like Fitz or Mike Wallace over the unproven rookie. I am also not a huge fan of Derek Carr, and the Raiders offense as a whole, until they show me they can make the big plays.

There are several other rookies with excellent opportunities to start that are much much cheaper while still being very talented. One of those is Devante Parker who I really really like at WR33, a whole 20 spots ahead of his consensus rank. He’s definitely in a better offense with a better, QB but he also has tougher competition at the WR spot. He is coming off an injury but just played in the Week 4 preseason game, so he looks set to play in Week 1 of the regular season. I think he might still need a few weeks to get used to the system, and carve out regular playing time, but Parker can be really special.

As a result of liking Parker so much, I’m low on Jarvis Landry in standard. I do think he can be a PPR beast, but he finished at WR49 in standard last year on 84 catches. His nine yards per reception was incredibly low. With the additions of Jordan Cameron, Kenny Stills, Greg Jennings and Parker I don’t really see his catch total increasing, and certainly not his touchdowns. I feel having him at WR40, which is still an improvement, is pretty generous.

That wraps up some of the major differences I have against the FantasyPros consensus expert rank. Be sure to check out my full rankings to see my thoughts on all players!
