The 23-year-old pitcher has had his best season in the majors so far. Martinez owns a 13-6 record with a 2.91 ERA for what has been his first All-Star year. The right-hander will get some much-needed rest as the post season nears with the Cardinals closing in on a division crown and the best record in the NL.
Martinez hasn’t had his best stuff of late though he’s still be solid. In his last 10 outings, he’s had seven quality starts, which included two performances without allowing a run.
Martinez is on pace to pitch the most innings by a wide margin for his career. Marco Gonzales will start in Martinez's place Tuesday.
