Over the course of the season I’ll be giving you two players at second base and shortstop per week who I think can help your team. These players are usually widely available in any format, and should turn nice profits in the weeks to come.
As always, feel free to reach out to me directly @Roto_Dubs with any questions about the middle infield or fantasy baseball in general.
Editor’s Note: to read about even more waiver wire options for second base and shortstop, be sure to check out our famous waiver wire pickups list which is a running list that is updated daily.
Second Base (2B) Waiver Wire Pickups
Carlos Sanchez (CWS)—Owned in 3.5% of ESPN leagues
Sanchez has been an important factor in the recent White Sox surge, hitting .326 over his last 30 games. He’s got a chokehold on the starting second base job, meaning the at-bats will be there. While he’s got absolutely no power to speak of, he’s been a consistent contact hitter throughout his professional career. I expect him to continue to get on base and score runs, and he should be a serviceable middle infield option at the very worst going forward.

Eddie Rosario (MIN)—Owned in 7.2% of ESPN leagues
Rosario has established himself as a legitimate fantasy asset, and should be rostered in any deep league. He’s hitting .294 with 34 runs scored and 24 RBIs on the season, and has even chipped in five homers and eight steals. He’s been particularly hot in the past couple weeks, with an OPS at an even 1.000 over his last 15 games. The surprising Twins offense has given him plenty of opportunities to score runs, and Rosario has capitalized. The fact that Rosario is also outfield eligible is simply a bonus.

Shortstop (SS) Waiver Wire Pickups
Jed Lowrie (HOU)—Owned in 8.2% of ESPN leagues
Lowrie is now back for Houston. While he won’t be reclaiming the starting shortstop gig from Carlos Correa, he should start regularly at third base over the one-dimensional Luis Valbuena. Prior to landing on the disabled list, Lowrie was having an excellent season, hitting .300 with four homers, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored in just 60 at-bats. I think he’ll play his way right back into fantasy relevance in any format, so snatch him up now before it’s too late.

Francisco Lindor (CLE)—Owned in 18.7% of ESPN leagues
Lindor struggled in his first few weeks after being called up, but he has begun to put things together. Over his last 15 games, Lindor is hitting .339 with nine runs scored, 10 RBIs, and even three homers. He was one of the highest-touted prospects in the Indians system, and he’s starting to show why. His production should be sustainable in the second half, as the Indians likely won’t shake up their lineup any more. Hitting in front of Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana should yield plenty of runs scored.
