Carlos Gomez Lands In Houston Along With Mike Fiers: Astros Send Prospects To Brewers

The Houston Astros acquired Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers from the Milwaukee Brewers for Domingo Santana, Brett Phillips, Josh Hader and Adrian Houser.

The deal comes 24 hours after it was reported that Gomez was traded to the New York Mets. Something went wrong and the plug was pulled for the deal. Instead of New York, the outfielder will move to Houston along with starting pitcher Mike Fiers.

"When they called me into the office I thought they were going to explain what happened yesterday," Gomez told reporters, according to ESPN.com shortly after the announcement of the deal. "They said, 'Now you've been traded.' I asked, 'Is this the real one?'"

Gomez, 29, has a .262/.328/.423 batting line with 8 HR, 43 RBI and 7 SB this season in 71 games played. There were a few reports that the Mets backed out on the deal because of a hip issue with Gomez. Apparently he was healthy enough for the Astros to make the move that will help them go neck and neck with the Angels for first place in the American League West.

"In the last month I've played every day," Gomez said. "I've missed one game because my manager gave me a day off. I have no problem. I'm playing, and I feel really sexy."

He’ll be playing every day in the outfield for the Astros down the final stretch of the season while Fiers will be plugged in the back end of their starting rotation with his 3.89 ERA in 21 starts.
