Jaime Garcia To Miss Thursday's Start: Cardinals Pitcher Not Landing On DL

Jaime Garcia won’t go on the DL, but he will miss his scheduled start on Thursday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The 28-year-old will likely be replaced by Tim Cooney against the Chicago Sox while he deals with ongoing cramping in his left groin. Garcia was unable to complete scheduled throwing sessions due to the pain. The St. Louis Cardinals will see where the left-hander is at following some rest.

Garcia (3-3, 1.69 ERA) has been great in 2015, albeit only seven starts. His seventh MLB season has by far been his best. In his last three starts, he allowed one run in a combined 21 innings. In all seven starts, he’s had a quality start while only allowing three runs once during that span.

This won’t be his first stint on the DL. Garcia’s first start didn’t come until May 21 because of shoulder surgery he needed last July.

When healthy, Garcia has done his part in helping the Cardinals to the best record in MLB (51-25), which is five better than any other team in baseball. St. Louis will need its starting pitching down the stretch, especially with no Adam Wainwright for the rest of the year. Garcia will provide much-needed depth to continue to fill that void.
