Rickie Weeks Released By Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners released Rickie Weeks in the middle of what has been a bad season for the once slugging-second baseman, according to NBCSports.com.

Weeks asked to be released and the Mariners obliged. After 11 solid seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, it has been quite the opposite during his first season with the Mariners. The 32-year-old has been nothing more than a part-time player in 2015. With Robinson Cano at second base, there’s barely any at-bats for Weeks. He’s seen most of his action in left field and at DH.

He has a .167/.263/.250 batting line with two homers and nine RBI in 84 at-bats. In 2014, he had a .274 BA, 8 HR and 29 RBI with the Brewers. His lone all-star appearance came in 2011. Weeks had an inconsistent career, but now it’s been consistently bad with Seattle.

Weeks signed a one-year $2 million contract to join the Mariners this past off-season. The Mariners have called up right-hander Danny Farquhar from Triple-A Tacoma to replace Weeks and will go with an eight-man bullpen for the time being, according to NBCSports.com.
