Ike Davis was placed on the DL today after being sidelined for a few days with a Grade-2 strain in his left quad. This is a more than just a basic strain which means Davis should be out for longer the 15 days of the DL assignment.
So far on the year Davis has been playing pretty well, hitting 2 HR with 11 RBI and 15 R while batting .282. After a few down seasons Davis seemed to be turning the corner with the A's this year.
With Davis going down, Mark Canha and Max Muncy will share the playing time. So far Canha has shown some nice power with 5 HR to go along with 15 RBI and 16 R. After getting off to a hot start at the beginning of the year Canha's average has fallen to just .226. Surprisingly Canha does have 3 SB and while he shouldn't be expected to be real big steals guy it doesn't mean that he can't surprise everyone with a steal here and there.
Muncy has not played all that much this year having only 21 PA in 12 games. Manager Bob Melvin has said that Muncy will probably face the righties and Canha the lefties. Oakland faces a string of right handers so bank on seeing Muncy more in the short term than Canha.
