Saturday Night NBA DFS Picks
There are nine games on the slate for Saturday night and a good chunk of those games are not predicted to reach the 200-point plateau, which means that FantasyScore Points (FSP) will be at a premium.
The big names should have solid nights, but players will need to be careful when selecting the value plays of the day. Feel free to start any combination of the following players and contemplate one for the flex position.
Guards to Consider
DeMar DeRozan (TOR, G) - $7,100
The Cavaliers will eventually get it all together, but right now they are a defensive mess. The only two guard on the Cavs that is sporting a positive number in the defensive win shares (DWS) category is Dion Waiters, and not a whole lot of people will take Waiters over DeRozan in a matchup.
Add in that DeRozan did not hit the 30-minute mark last night in the Raptors blowout win and you get a fresh shooting guard that will more than likely put in quality minutes in the fourth quarter.
Darren Collison (SAC, G) - $5,100
Collison is dropping 34.0 FSP per game and is more than $1,100 off the optimal average budget per player. In what should be a high scoring game between the Kings and Timberwolves, Collison should have no problem finding open teammates and putting in a 20 point game. However, because Vegas likes the Kings by nine, be wary of the blowout potential.
Mario Chalmers (MIA, G) - $4,300
With the injury to Dwyane Wade, Chalmers has taken up some of the scoring slack and has provided surprisingly efficient minutes, at least on the offensive end. His defense has been suspect at best, but with the scoring system on FantasyScore, guards like Chalmers are not penalized for failure to collapse.
Chalmers should have no problem against Orlando, as the Magic are no strangers to poor perimeter defense themselves.
Forwards to Consider
Anthony Davis (NOP, F) - $9,400
Until Davis fails to put up a monster game, he will continue to make this list. It does not really matter what team he is playing against, since New Orleans will be in plenty of close games this season.
Davis is an absolute stud, and even with his high price tag, it is difficult to not start the early-season MVP. Fear the brow!
Trevor Ariza (HOU, F) - $4,900
DFS players are really starting to take notice of any starter in a matcup versus the Dallas Mavericks, as an analytical approach to the game is paying offensive dividends. Of all the positions the Mavs are giving up the most FSP to this season, the small forward/swingman has been most productive.
Look for Ariza to hit some threes and grab some defensive FSP through rebounds, blocks and steals, adding top-notch value at a more than fair price.
Shawne Williams (MIA, F) - $2,900
Here is the big value deal of the day. The Magic have problems defending the swing position and Williams has been very productive with his time on the court.
It should not be long before Heat coach Erik Spoelstra announces that Williams will take over starting duties for Josh McRoberts (foot) when the latter returns to full health. And with the added bonus of Wade's injury, as previously mentioned, Williams should have no problem giving FantasyScore owners a ton of value.
Center to Consider
Larry Sanders (MIL, C) - $4,600
Sure, DeMarcus Cousins and Chris Bosh are obvious choices, but the informed FantasyScore player is looking for the center that will contribute that type of production at a cheaper price.
Fresh off an emotional win over the Cavs, there is a strong possibility that the Wizards come out flat against the Bucks. With that in mind, Sanders could provide a ton of points and rebounds in the first half, then sustain his hot hand into the second half in what could be a let-down game for the up and coming Wizards.
