BALLER MOVE: Add in Two-Catcher Leagues and 14+ Team Leagues
ANALYSIS: To this point in his career, Devin Mesoraco’s major league service has consisted of sharing catching duties, most recently in 2013, with Ryan Hanigan. Now that Hanigan is with Tampa Bay, the bulk of the catching duties fall to him. His major league numbers don’t jump off the page (.232 career batting average with 19 home runs), but keep in mind that Mesoraco was drafted as a first round pick by the Reds back in 2007 and in 2012 he was the #16 rated prospect according to Baseball America - he's also only only 25 years old. He has the pedigree of a number one catcher and since returning from an oblique injury he has been raking like one – 3 home runs with a .500 batting average in 6 games. I think it’s fair to expect a .250 batting average and 15 home runs over the balance of the season as his floor. I’ve personally added Mesoraco as my number one catcher to replace Wilson Ramos in my 12-team league. Right now he’s still only 20% owned and that number will climb.
