Buy Low and Sell High: Trade and Waiver Targets for Week 10

Are you looking to trade?  If your answer is “yes”, then the RotoBaller.com Buy/Sell Weekly Article is where to find 5 players of the week to Sell High and 5 players to Buy Low.

You trade for one of two reasons:

  1. You need a shortstop, have an extra third baseman and someone has as extra shortstop.  You trade a third baseman for a shortstop.  Done.
  2. You have a player who is exceeding expectations.  He is unlikely to keep it up, so you trade him for a position you need. Done

Sell ‘Em

Let's take a look at a few players who have been playing above their levels of late, such that you should consider placing them on your trading block to see whether another owner in your league will pay full price for continuing production:

  1. Hisashi IwakumaHisashi Iwakuma – Iwakuma should have found himself on this list prior to his last start in which he gave up 5 earned runs.  He is 5-1 on the season and getting run support that Seattle just can’t maintain.
  2. Mike Minor – Had one “explosion” this season and each other time he has been unhittable.  This just will not keep up. The Braves have been very hot, winning six in a row, and now is the time to move Minor.  Don’t wait until both his team and his stats shift into inevitable decline.
  3. Travis Wood – If you can find someone who thinks Wood can sustain a WHIP under 1.0, move him immediately to that person.  Wood is young and may have made adjustments to bring his career ERA down below a 4.0, but he will hit some struggles and now is a great time to get some value.  Don’t be greedy!  Owning him has paid off for you, but that won’t continue forever.
  4. Jean Segura – No idea where the power is coming from but I have an inkling that it may not continue.  He will finish with over 30 SB, but greater than 15 HR is unlikely.
  5. Nate McLouth – He is scoring runs and stealing bases at a very good rate.  The red flag is his .281 batting average.  McLouth has a career .250 batting average suggesting that the rate at which he is racking up those stats is likely to be on the decline.
  6. Jurickson Profar – Sell, sell, sell.  The bottom line is there is no room for the young infielder on the Texas roster when Kinsler returns.  In fact, it’s hard to predict just when Profar will have a spot.  Kinsler is signed thru 2017 including a 2018 team option and Andrus is signed thru 2022 with a 2023 team option.

Buy ‘Em

And of course, we've got to look at some guys who you should look to pick up from their frustrated owners for pennies on the dollar:

  1. Chris Davis – His power is real and his supporting cast’s emergence only adds to his value.  Some people are not sold on Davis being the real deal.
  2. Jarrod parker 2012Jarrod Parker – Parker has put together 3 quality starts in a row and lowered his ERA from 10.80 (on April 14th) to 5.76 after this week's solid start.  The former first-rounder should be a target for your fantasy team, and you should grab him while his ERA still suggests he is struggling when in reality, he is just heating up.
  3. Giancarlo Stanton – People are fed up with his lack of power and the fact he has been sitting on the DL since April 30th.  On April 26th, Stanton had zero home runs; on April 28th, he had three on the season right before he hit the DL.  He should be back within the next few weeks, you might still be able to get him cheap.
  4. Trevor Cahill – Cahill is coming off two subpar outings in which he didn't pitch that poorly.  Cahill is going to be a solid start all season.  He will keep your WHIP and ERA down and has extremely solid fantasy value.
  5. Ryan Zimmerman – Zimm is struggling to say the least.  He had 1 RBI in the past 5 games before his big home run explosion earlier this week. It might be too late to buy low on account of those bombs, but it's only a matter of time before Zimm heats up for an extended stretch.  If you are in need of a 3B, he is certainly a player you should target.

Do you have someone going on the DL?  Did you do a 2 for 1 trade?  Do you have someone you need to drop?  And are looking for someone to pick up?
