Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano didn't have too many problems on the mound during Thursday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The right-hander gave up back-to-back home runs in the third inning. Outside of the two homers, Sugano pitched extremely well on the mound here. He tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out three batters in the win. This was arguably his best start of the season, so hopefully he can keep it going. He'll take a 3.43 ERA across 22 innings into his next start against the Washington Nationals. Sugano isn't a must-have fantasy option, but is worth a look in deep leagues and AL-only formats right now.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano (hand) was removed early during Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-hander was pulled out prior to the bottom of the fifth inning due to cramping in his hand. Before exiting, Sugano allowed, four hits, two earned runs, and struck out one batter across four innings of work. This doesn't sound like a serious injury, so Sugano should be fine to make his next start against the Kansas City Royals. The 35-year-old rookie is probably only worth rostering in deep leagues and AL-only formats right now.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano dazzled for three innings in Sunday's 4-3 Grapefruit League win over the Twins, allowing no runs, hits, or walks in the contest while striking out five of the nine batters he faced. That makes seven scoreless innings for the righty this spring, allowing four hits thus far with a 2:7 BB:K. With fellow starter Grayson Rodriguez possibly starting the season on the IL, the O's will need the rest of their arms healthy, and so far, Sugano has looked good. The 35-year-old pitcher out of Japan is worth a look at the end of deeper drafts, as RotoBaller ranks him at 324 overall, well ahead of his NFBC ADP of 353.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

According to the team, Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano has reported to camp. The Orioles signed him to a one-year contract with $13 million earlier in the offseason. Sugano arrived late to camp due to visa issues. Fantasy managers should expect the 35-year-old to throw his first bullpen session sometime next week, and he is currently slated to open the season in the starting rotation. The right-hander was dominant in the Nippon Professional Baseball's Central League. Last season, he logged 156 2/3 innings with a sharp 1.67 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. He showed elite command with a 16:111 BB:K ratio. Fantasy managers should not target Sugano when looking for strikeouts, as his fastball does not reach the upper 90s. However, he could provide strong ratios, given his elite command. He is worth a look in deeper formats, as he should spend most of the campaign in the starting rotation.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

BaltimoreBaseball.com's Rich Dubroff reports that Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano has been delayed to camp due to visa issues, but he should join the team sometime this weekend. Sugano will make his MLB debut in 2025 after the Orioles signed the Japanese hurler to a one-year, $13 million contract in December. The 35-year-old veteran doesn't come with as much fanfare as Dodgers rookie Roki Sasaki, but he should nevertheless begin the year in Baltimore's starting rotation. Sugano features a diverse arsenal of six pitches and has pinpoint control, but he's near the end of his career at this point and had a weak 18.3 percent strikeout rate with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. He's going to have to rely on generating a lot of weak contact to succeed in the U.S. this year. RotoBaller has Sugano ranked just inside the top-100 starting pitchers.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
