The Minnesota Twins acquired infielder Jonah Bride from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. Bride was just designated for assignment by Miami on Tuesday, but it didn't take long for another team to come calling for his services. The Twins are placing outfielder Matt Wallner (hamstring) on the injured list, while shortstop Carlos Correa (wrist) and utility man Willi Castro (oblique) were both injured the last two days as well. The 29-year-old Bride will provide some much-needed position-player depth for the Twins for the time being, although it won't guarantee him regular at-bats with his new organization. Bride did hit .276 (64-for-232) with a career-high 11 homers and 39 RBI in 71 games in 2024 for Miami, but he started 2025 going 4-for-40 (.100) with five walks and 15 strikeouts in 12 games.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Miami Marlins announced on Tuesday that they designated infielder Jonah Bride for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Jesus Sanchez (oblique), who was activated from the 10-day injured list. If Bride clears waivers, he'll likely return to Triple-A Jacksonville and serve as minor-league infield depth for the Marlins. The 29-year-old had a rough start to the 2025 season in the big leagues, going 4-for-40 (.100) with no homers, two RBI, three runs scored, five walks and 15 strikeouts in 45 plate appearances over 12 games played. The move is good news for both Eric Wagaman and Matt Mervis, who are both in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. If Bride returns to the Marlins organization, he could eventually be a bench option against right-handed pitching again at some point this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins first baseman Jonah Bride remains out of the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the division-rival New York Mets at Citi Field. Matt Mervis will start at first base and bat third for the Fish against Mets right-hander Clay Holmes. Bride has just two hits in his first 28 at-bats of the year with five walks and 10 strikeouts, so he'll start on the bench for the third straight game. Mervis, who hits from the left side, has gone 6-for-21 at the plate with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored, two walks and nine strikeouts in his first seven games with the Marlins. The 29-year-old Bride will have to pick it up offensively when he gets his opportunities moving forward to avoid being benched most days. Mervis has one hit and an RBI in just two career at-bats against Holmes.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Miami Marlins first baseman Jonah Bride is entering spring training as the "frontrunner" to open the season as the starting first baseman. Jackson noted that former top prospect Matt Mervis and Deyvison De Los Santos will compete alongside Bride for the job, but given his strong play with the Marlins last season, Bride is the clear top option. Last season, across 71 contests in Miami, Bride posted a .276/.357/.461 line with 10 doubles, 11 home runs, and a 30:55 BB:K ratio. He drew walks at an elite 11 percent rate and held a strong 20.2 percent strikeout rate. Across 75 games with Triple-A Jacksonville, the 29-year-old posted a .267/.409/.454 line with 11 long balls. If Bride has a successful spring training, he could be worth a look in deeper NL-only formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

The Miami Marlins acquired infielder Jonah Bride from the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday evening in exchange for cash considerations. To make room on their 40-man roster, the Marlins designated infielder Jordan Groshans for assignment in a corresponding move. The 28-year-old Bride has two years of major-league experience and has played third, second and first base. He also played 90 innings as a catcher at Double-A Midland in 2022. He hit a strong .305/.432/.544 with a .976 OPS, a career-high 13 home runs, 19 doubles, two triples, 54 RBI, five stolen bases and 60 runs scored in 73 games for Triple-A Las Vegas last year. Bride has just a .528 OPS in 293 big-league plate appearances, though, and he'll give the Fish some infield depth to open spring training in a couple weeks.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
