Todd McGill's DraftKings, FanDuel PGA DFS picks for the 2025 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links. Picks for daily fantasy golf based on course history
Wow... What a week at Augusta National. The year's first major was everything golf fans could have wanted, with drama that only The Masters can provide. Rory McIlroy completed the long-awaited career grand slam in—at times— gut-wrenching fashion. Becoming the sixth person in history to complete the achievement. He overcame two double bogeys in the final round, doing just enough to force a playoff with a charging Justin Rose and delivering an all-time great approach shot in the sudden-death matchup to win the green jacket.
The deflating nature that comes with the week after a major is sometimes challenging to get excited about. However, the importance of the historic week can't go unnoticed, as the PGA Tour heads to Hilton Head for its fifth Signature Event. Nearly all the top players will make the trek from Georgia to compete at another famed venue, Harbour Town Golf Links. Given its popularity through the years, there is ample course history to look at, and many repeat successes from a few different names.
Horse For The Course is an article highlighting players in this week's field with elite course history and is part of our free PGA DFS content here at RotoBaller. 2025 RBC Heritage
Much like pimento cheese, Butler Cabin, and green jackets were last week, the RBC Heritage is an event steeped in traditions. From the cannon firing ceremony to the plaid jacket, there is some cool stuff this week at Harbour Town. Its reclassification to an Invitational and Signature Event has drawn a much better field than it used to.
The placement of directly following The Masters was once a detriment, but now it delivers incredible leaderboards to keep the momentum high and fan interest up.
Outside of Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama, every other PGA Tour star is here this week. Many are already focused on next month at Quail Hollow, but there are a few more opportunities to iron things out before then.
Scottie Scheffler will return to Hilton Head with good memories of his dominance last season, which swept through this property after winning the week prior. This year, he comes in off a frustrating weekend at Augusta that never allowed him to make a serious push to contend.
The ball striking hasn't quite been there this season, which will be the primary focus at Harbour Town. It's never wise to count out someone of Scheffler's caliber, but there's certainly a level of optimism for other guys this week that wasn't present at this point last season.

Harbour Town Golf Links
Par 72 - 7,213 | Greens: 419 Bermudagrass | Designed By: Pete Dye
A beautiful property on the edges of Calibogue Sound, Harbour Town Golf Links is a magnificent golf course that tests the creativity and patience of serious players. The tight, treelined layout forces you to hit uncomfortable shots from the first tee shot to the approach on 18. Hitting greens is also a tall task, as they are among the smallest on the PGA Tour at a mere 3700 square feet.
Success on this layout starts and ends with the irons. The hole designs will force many players to hit less than driver off many tees, and the penalty for missing these tiny putting surfaces is more severe than at many other tour stops. Anyone can win here, which makes for an exciting watch for golf fans.
Harbour Town is set to undergo an extensive restoration project following this year's event, so much of what we know about course history here may start to change. What will likely remain is the need to score well on the tricky but playable par-5s, have a solid week on approach, and putt well—a recipe that's as old as time.
Recent RBC Heritage Winners
- 2024: Scottie Scheffler (-19)
- 2023: Matt Fitzpatrick (-17)
- 2022: Jordan Spieth (-13)
- 2021: Stewart Cink (-19)
- 2020: Webb Simpson (-22)
The Horse
Patrick Cantlay
- Notable Finishes: Second ('22), T3 (four times)
Patrick Cantlay has established a frustrating but solid body of work at Harbour Town over the years. He's only finished outside the top 10 once in seven career starts but has never won. Losing to Jordan Spieth in a playoff in 2022. Over his last 14 rounds here, he's averaging positive strokes gained metrics in all categories, but none more than on approach (+1.241).
Cantlay excels in that area week in and week out, so his success at this course shouldn't be that surprising. He is doing much of the same in 2025, but the results haven't necessarily come with it. However, making another run at this title on Sunday wouldn't be surprising.
The Ponies
Scottie Scheffler
- Notable Finishes: First ('24)
HERE COMES SCOTTIE! 😤

After the season Scottie Scheffler had last year, it wouldn't be hard to find a way to get him into nearly every HFC article. However, the way his game sets up to compete at Harbour Town will make him a worry to the other players every year he decides to tee it up.
His +1.467 strokes gained on approach average at this course is the highest in the field, and while I'd say most guys aren't capable of keeping that level of performance up, Scheffler isn't one of those people. He's doing everything well enough to get the first win of the season, and Harbour Town could easily be where he does it.
Justin Thomas
- Notable Finishes: T5 ('24), T8 ('20)
Justin Thomas eagles made:

This season: 8 (9 events)pic.twitter.com/YImCS5K71t— Underdog Golf (@UnderdogGolf) April 11, 2025
Like our horse, Justin Thomas is another ball-striker-centric player who has found success at Harbour Town but not a win in six career starts. His inability to close the deal likely comes from a discipline issue to take smarter lines off the tee, as his strokes gained off the tee (+0.170) is his worst metric.
J.T. is still one of the premier ball strikers on the PGA Tour, and the solid proximity numbers he produces along with his wedge game prowess make him a formidable opponent here. Putting is always an issue anywhere he goes, but that, too, has shown quality signs of life lately. After a disappointing showing at Augusta, look for Thomas to find a little more success this week.

Daniel Berger
- Notable Finishes: T3 ('20), T13 ('21)
Daniel Berger is playing Greek golf again. Watch the classic reverse slot swing. I wrote about this in the slot swing book. So many great players use this type of swing action where the hands move out at the start of the downswing—in transition. #golf pic.twitter.com/5ahG77DCDb
— Jim McLean Golf (@McLeanGolf) February 11, 2025
Regarding finishes, Daniel Berger doesn't exactly jump off the page with only one top 10 in five starts. However, statistically, he's the third in the field in total strokes gained (+2.054) at Harbour Town over the last five years and fifth in strokes gained on approach (+1.178).
It will be his first start here since the back injury that sidelined him in 2022, but he has returned to much of the same player he was before. Berger is quietly putting together a nice season in 2025, and it would be great to see him in the mix this week.
