4 days agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Friday that they activated first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) from the 10-day injured list. Freeman is back at first base and will bat cleanup for Friday's series opener at Dodger Stadium against the Chicago Cubs and left-hander Matthew Boyd. It's not the greatest matchup for Freeman to return to for DFS purposes -- he's hitting .167 in six career at-bats against Boyd -- but fantasy managers in single-year leagues will want to get the All-Star first baseman back in their lineups for the weekend. The 35-year-old slipped in the shower in late March and aggravated his surgically repaired right ankle, but the Dodgers were never really concerned. There's a good chance he'll be rested at some point this weekend, but the only thing that matters is that he's starting on Friday. Freeman has gone 3-for-12 with two homers and four RBI in his first three games in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

4 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) is expected to return on Friday when the Dodgers host the Chicago Cubs. Freeman has been on the 10-day injured list after suffering a setback on the ankle he underwent surgery on. However, it appears the 35-year-old is only expected to miss a short period of time. Through his first four games of the regular season, Freeman has posted a modest .250/.250/.833 line with a double and two home runs. However, under the hood, Freeman has generated an elite .577 xwOBA, which suggests he should see significant positive regression in his batting average. While Freeman has been sidelined, Kike Hernandez has seen most of the time at first base. When Freeman returns, he should be viewed as a must-start high-end No. 1 first baseman.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 week agoLos Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 31. The Dodgers were hopeful to avoid this, but Freeman wasn't progressing as they hoped from his right-ankle sprain. It's worth noting that the sprain is on the same ankle Freeman had surgically-repaired. That being said, the Dodgers aren't going to take any chances this early in the season and will give Freeman some time to rest. Enrique Hernandez figures to handle a majority of the playing time at first base while Freeman is out. Hernandez isn't a must-have fantasy player, but he does hit well against left-handed pitching. The veteran slugger figures to see a boost in value while Freeman is on the shelf. Freeman needs to be stashed in all fantasy leagues.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoLos Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) will miss his third straight game on Wednesday evening at Dodger Stadium against the winless Atlanta Braves. With Freeman out again after aggravating his right-ankle injury during a slip in the shower on Sunday, Enrique Hernandez will make another start at the cold corner and will hit eighth against Braves right-hander Bryce Elder. The Dodgers have the day off on Thursday, so the earliest we'll see the 35-year-old Freeman again for the Blue will be for Friday's series opener in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Fantasy managers will want to check back then to see if Freeman is feeling good enough to play. Kike has gone just 2-for-15 in the early going through four games for L.A., but both of his hits have gone over the fence and he's driven in four runs. Hernandez will be a boom/bust DFS power option on Wednesday against a pitcher he's never faced.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoLos Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) is out of the starting lineup again on Tuesday against the visiting Atlanta Braves at Dodger Stadium and likely won't play again until Friday, at the earliest, according to 570 LA Sports' David Vassegh. Freeman slipped and fell on his right ankle in the shower on Sunday morning, but thankfully X-rays showed that he didn't damage his surgically-repaired right ankle. Enrique Hernandez will get another start at first base on Tuesday and will hit sixth against Braves left-hander Chris Sale, who won the National League Cy Young award last season. Fantasy managers will be without the 35-year-old Freeman for another few days, but he should be back in L.A.'s lineup at some point this weekend for a showdown in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Through three games played, Freeman has gone 3-for-12 with two homers, a double and four RBI for the Blue.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
