5 days agoArizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-2 with a double and his first home run of the campaign on Thursday evening. Lawlar tallied two RBI and scored once in this contest as well. After going 0-for-7 at the plate through the first two games of the Triple-A regular season, Lawlar has begun to turn the corner as he has posted a strong .317/.417/.488 slash line over his past 10 contests. During this stretch, he has tallied nine RBI and scored 10 runs. He has hit four doubles and swiped four bags. Lawlar is considered not only the top prospect in Arizona but one of the best in the sport. He received a brief taste of the majors in 2023 but was unable to return in 2024 as he battled numerous injuries. However, if he continues to perform with Reno, he should be in the mix for an early return to Arizona this summer.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 days agoArizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-5 with a home run during their contest against Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. This was another strong showing for the infielder. Over his previous 10 contests with Triple-A Reno, Lawlar has posted a .349/.440/.605 slash line with five doubles, two home runs, and two stolen bases. He has tallied 10 RBI over this stretch and held a 6:15 BB:K. The 22-year-old is viewed as not only the top prospect in the desert but one of the best in the sport. He was able to earn a small taste of the majors in 2023 but could not return to the big leagues in 2024 due to numerous injuries. However, it appears the 22-year-old is healthy and performing at a high level at the top level of the minors. He is worth stashing in all 15+ team formats as he could return to the majors in the coming weeks.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoArizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Jordan Lawlar went 3-for-4 with a walk, three RBI, and a run scored for Triple-A Reno on Thursday. All three hits were singles, currently with just one extra-base hit on the young season and batting .273, but four walks have given him a nice .407 OBP to start the campaign. Regardless of performance, the D-Backs have to be happy the 22-year-old is simply healthy after playing in just 23 games all of last season due to injuries. In 2023 between Double and Triple-A, the right-handed hitter slugged 20 home runs and stole 36 bases over 105 games, resulting in an MLB debut for the then-20-year-old and even remaining on the team's postseason roster for their run to the World Series. Still young and ranked as MLB's 10th-overall prospect, the former first-round draft pick should push for a return to the majors this year. He's blocked all over the infield for playing time at the moment, but he's an injury away from being recalled. Once he's there, expect him to stay, and he has the talent to be a perennial 20/20 threat.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned infield prospect Jordan Lawlar to Triple-A Reno. Lawlar was competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster but will instead begin his 2025 campaign at the top level of the minor leagues. Last season, Lawlar missed time due to injuries and was unable to reach the majors. He appeared in just 23 games in the minor leagues (17 at Triple-A) and posted a .318/.417/.482 slash line. Lawlar made his MLB debut during the 2023 campaign and posted .129/.206/.129 slash line with a 2:11 BB:K. Fantasy managers should monitor his progress at Triple-A as he should contend for an early-season return to the big leagues. The 22-year-old is viewed as the top prospect in the Arizona system and was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. While he continues his development at Triple-A, Geraldo Perdomo will see most of the opportunities at shortstop in the majors.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 months agoArizona Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar blasted his first home run of the spring in Wednesday's 7-1 Cactus League win over the Brewers. The two-run home run was the only hit of the day for the 22-year-old, who is now 2-for-8 this spring. While it is always a welcome sight when your players perform well, the D-backs are probably even more thrilled just to see their former first-round draft pick and top prospect on the field this spring. Last year was a lost season for Lawlar, who battled injuries throughout the campaign and managed to play in only 23 games all year. With Arizona signing Geraldo Perdomo to a four-year extension this month, there isn't a need to rush Lawlar back to the big leagues, so he'll likely get more reps at Triple-A to begin the year. At some point, due to injury or underperformance on the part of one of the regulars, we'll see Lawlar back in the Show in 2025, and he offers 20/20 potential if given the proper opportunity. MLB's 11th-ranked prospect won't be drafted in most leagues but will be a strong stash candidate early on for managers who have extra room on their bench.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller
