Robert Suarez Still Stacking Saves For San Diego
1 week agoSan Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez secured his sixth save of the season on Wednesday afternoon in Sacramento. He became the first closer in the MLB to reach that level this season with a highly efficient seven-pitch inning against the Athletics in his team's 2-1 victory. He walked Tyler Soderstrom on five pitches to start the inning but got Shea Langeliers to bounce into a double play and JJ Bleday to fly out to center to end the game on his next two pitches. Suarez has converted every one of his six save opportunities while allowing just two walks and no hits over six shutout innings. He has seven strikeouts in those six innings as well and has emerged as one of the elite closers in the game over the first few weeks of the season.
