Josh Lowe Moving Around "Pain-Free"
Josh Lowe (oblique) is improving nicely from a Grade 2 right-oblique strain that he suffered on Opening Day. "Josh is actually moving pretty pain free, which we're encouraged by that. It's still a ways, but we got to be happy with the way he's his body is feeling," manager Kevin Cash said. Lowe still has a ways to go before the Rays think about activating him from the IL, but so far he's making good progress from an injury that sidelined him last year as well. It remains to be seen when Lowe will resume baseball activities, but it seems unlikely that we'll see him back in the big leagues before the end of April. In the meantime, given all the injuries to Tampa Bay's outfielders -- Jonny DeLuca just went on the IL on Tuesday with a shoulder ailment -- both Kameron Misner and Jake Mangum will see regular playing time for the Rays.

Josh Lowe Collects Three Hits In Return
Josh Lowe made his return to the lineup during Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Lowe has been sidelined since injuring his oblique on Opening Day. He returned with a bang during Thursday's game. He finished the day going 3-for-5 with two singles and a solo home run off right-hander Kevin Gausman in the fifth inning. When healthy, Lowe has the ability to be a legitimate threat in this lineup. That being said, Lowe is worth rostering in most 12-team formats going forward.

Josh Lowe Activated And Starting On Thursday
Josh Lowe (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Thursday and is starting in Thursday's series finale against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Kevin Gausman. Lowe is serving as the designated hitter and will bat leadoff for the Rays in his first game back since he strained his oblique on Opening Day. In a corresponding move, Tampa placed outfielder Travis Jankowski (groin) on the IL. The 27-year-old Lowe had two home runs in his six minor-league rehab games, so fantasy managers are hoping he can continue swinging the bat well in his return to the majors. If he can stay healthy, which has been an issue in his career, Lowe will play regularly for the Rays in right field and offers fantasy managers an intriguing mix of power and speed. In 2023 and 2024, Lowe had a combined 30 home runs, 117 RBI and 57 stolen bases in 241 games played.

Josh Lowe Could Return This Weekend
Josh Lowe (oblique) could come off the 10-day injured list for the team's series against the Miami Marlins that starts on Friday, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin. Lowe began his minor-league rehab in the rookie-level Florida Complex League before moving to Triple-A Durham last Thursday. In three rehab games with the Bulls, the 27-year-old left-handed hitter has gone 2-for-9 at the plate. He's scheduled to play in a couple more games at Triple-A this week before the Rays contemplate activating him for the weekend. Lowe has been away from the team since Opening Day, when he sustained a Grade 2 right-oblique strain on a swing. Already with a 20-homer, 30-steal season a couple of years ago, there's no reason Lowe should be floating around on any waiver wires with his return imminent.

Josh Lowe Picks Up Two Hits In Rehab Outing
Josh Lowe (oblique) went 2-for-3 with two singles, a run scored and a walk in a minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham on Sunday while serving as the Bulls' designated hitter. Lowe moved his rehab assignment from the rookie-level Florida Complex League to Triple-A last Thursday after hitting a two-run homer with two walks in five plate appearances in the FCL. In three games with the Bulls, the 27-year-old left-handed hitter has gone 2-for-9 with three walks and four strikeouts. Lowe suffered a right-oblique strain on Opening Day but could be ready to make his return from the injured list by the weekend or early next week if he can avoid a setback. His intriguing mix of power and speed -- he hit 20 bombs and stole 32 bases in 2023 -- makes him stash-worthy in all fantasy leagues, and he should be an everyday player in Tampa when he returns.
