Fantasy baseball trade candidates to buy/sell for Week 2 (2025). Joey's fantasy baseball undervalued players to target in trades, and overvalued to trade away.
It's never too early to start making trades in your fantasy leagues. While we shouldn't overreact to everything that has happened in the first week of the season, it is essential to note it. Several players are off to great starts, while some hitters have begun the year in a slump.
In this article, we will go through the biggest buys and sells to begin the season. The buys on this list are players who have gotten off to slow starts but should turn it around in the coming weeks. The sells are players fantasy managers should be selling high amid their solid numbers through the first couple of games.
So, which players should we be buying and selling in Week 2 of the 2025 fantasy baseball season? Let's dive in and find out.

Undervalued Fantasy Baseball Players to Trade For
3B/DH Rafael Devers, Boston Red Sox
Boston Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers will want to forget how the start of his season has gone. He is 3-for-27 with 16 strikeouts in his first seven games. However, let's not read too much into his rough start. Although he looked lost at the plate to start his 2025 campaign, Devers is working through some things.
For starters, being a full-time DH could be a major adjustment for him. He is used to playing the field, and losing his spot at third base could be challenging for him mentally. In addition, Devers didn't see many plate appearances in the spring. The 28-year-old appeared in just five games due to a shoulder issue from last year.
Manny Ramirez on Rafael Devers:
“I'm willing to help him. My doors are open, I can give him good advice. Whatever he needs, I'm here. If he wants to talk to me, I'm here to help him with my experience, give him good advice, and talk to him about what I went through. Remember, I… pic.twitter.com/Lh5ywCohf7

Therefore, Devers is someone fantasy managers should be looking to buy low heading into the second week of the fantasy season. He will eventually figure things out, and when he does, this could be a huge pickup for your fantasy team. The Red Sox slugger has hit at least 27 home runs and driven in 80 runs in four consecutive years. So, trade for him now before his fantasy value skyrockets.
SP Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves
It might not be easy to trade for Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale, but his value could be down just a bit since the season has begun. He has given up three runs across five innings in his first two starts, and his average fastball velocity is down one mph from last year. Nonetheless, if someone in your league wants to trade him away, you should jump over that.
Sale was one of the best pitchers in baseball last season, with a 2.38 ERA, 225 strikeouts, and 18 wins. Managers shouldn't be worried about his subpar numbers in his first two starts, especially when those outings have come against the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Those two offenses have been the hottest in the early going.
As a result, Sale is a nice trade target if some fantasy managers are already frustrated with his early season numbers. It's also interesting that the southpaw was traded straight up for Hunter Greene in a Yahoo league on April 2. While we don't know which type of league this trade occurred in, the Braves pitcher might be undervalued currently in some leagues.
Overvalued Fantasy Baseball Players to Trade Away
1B Tyler Soderstrom, Athletics
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom got off to a fantastic start at the plate this season. He had seven hits in his first 15 at-bats with three home runs, one double, and four RBI. This stretch made Soderstrom one of the most added players in fantasy to begin the year because of his home run potential. The 23-year-old hit nine homers in 61 games in 2024.
However, fantasy managers should be looking to trade away Soderstrom immediately. After strong numbers in the first four games, the A's first baseman cooled off significantly during the Cubs series. He went 1-for-12 with three strikeouts. Even though players go through slumps all the time, there are concerns about the 23-year-old offensively.

Soderstrom had a 24.9% strikeout rate and a 30.1% whiff rate across his 189 at-bats last season. Those poor metrics have continued for him in the early going, as he has a 29.2% strikeout rate and a 32.5% whiff rate through his first seven games. The young first baseman might be able to contribute solid home run numbers for managers in 2025, but it'll likely come with a low batting average and no stolen bases.
1B/DH Kyle Manzardo, Cleveland Guardians
Like Soderstrom, Cleveland Guardians first baseman Kyle Manzardo was added in many fantasy leagues to start the season. That's because Manzardo hit two home runs and drove in six runs in his first three games. Fantasy managers should try to sell the slugger before his fantasy value declines in the coming weeks.

There will be plenty of struggles along the way with Manzardo, and his 2024 metrics don't suggest that a breakout is in store for him this year. The 24-year-old had a .197 expected batting average, 89.1 mph average exit velocity, and a 26.3% strikeout rate last season. While things could be different for the young first baseman in 2025, fantasy managers should try to sell him high.
His average exit velocity (86.5 mph), hard-hit rate (28.6%), and launch angle sweet-spot rate (21.4%) all rank extremely poor in the early going, and Manzardo has zero hits across his last nine plate appearances. Since he is still being added in many fantasy leagues, he is a prime trade-away candidate at this point in the year.
SS Masyn Winn, St. Louis Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn is the only player on this list who is off to a slow start and should still be traded in all leagues. That makes him a sell-low trade candidate heading into the second week of the fantasy season. He has looked awful at the plate in the first six games, totaling just two hits across 22 at-bats with 10 strikeouts.
Winn's numbers at the beginning of the year are quite surprising after the shortstop broke out last year. He hit .267 with 15 home runs, 32 doubles, 57 RBI, and 11 stolen bases in 150 games. However, it has been quite some time since we have seen him put up solid numbers at the plate. He didn't do much in September last season, and those struggles continued into the spring, where he batted a mere .080 across 17 games.
Now, Winn is off to a dreadful start to his 2025 campaign. With his recent struggles on offense, it's best to get rid of the Cardinals shortstop in fantasy. While the 23-year-old will eventually turn things around, there are better players to own who have a better fantasy outlook for the rest of the season. Therefore, the Cardinals infielder should be traded away before Week 2 begins.
