2025 NFL Draft Trade Scenarios: 8 Potential Blockbuster Deals

Tyreek Hill - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Mike's top eight potential blockbuster trade ideas for the 2025 NFL Draft. His top player trade scenarios for the 2025 NFL season before the 2025 NFL draft.

The 2025 NFL Draft is less than four weeks away, and the rumor mill is heating up. While the NFL Draft is full of chaos and excitement without trade action, everyone loves to see a blockbuster deal made.

A few expected blockbuster deals are getting thrown around on social media. While that trade likely occurs on draft night, what other deals could happen during the first round?

Let’s dive into eight potential blockbuster trade ideas for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Dak Prescott Heads to Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns haven’t rostered a quality starting quarterback since the franchise returned in 1999. The team thought they had fixed their quarterback problem by trading for Deshaun Watson. Unfortunately, he has played in only 19 contests in three years with the team because of suspension and multiple significant injuries.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that someone started a rumor that Cleveland is preparing to make another blockbuster trade for a star quarterback. Some believe the Dallas Cowboys will trade Prescott to the Browns for the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, cornerback Greg Newsome II, and future draft capital.

The Chicago Bears Make Another Blockbuster Trade

Chicago has been one of the more aggressive teams over the past few years, with general manager Ryan Poles running the show. They acquired DJ Moore, Caleb Williams, and more for the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Bears also traded for Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders earlier this year.

Furthermore, they acquired Joe Thuney from the Kansas City Chiefs and Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams this offseason. Chicago has three picks in the top 41, giving them the draft capital to move into the top three to select Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter to add to their talented defense.

Jerry Jones Loves the Headlines

No one loves being in the headlines more than Jones. Furthermore, the Dallas Cowboys' owner is always willing to make a blockbuster move if the opportunity presents itself. The team traded a first-round pick for Amari Cooper in 2018. What if Jones makes another big-time move for a star wide receiver?

Tyreek Hill has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason. While the superstar swears he is happy with the Miami Dolphins, the team might be ready to move on from him. Hill is coming off a down season and is on the wrong side of 30. Yet, Jones might not be able to avoid the thought of pairing him with CeeDee Lamb.

It’s the Year of the Tight End

Last year, three wide receivers came off the board in the first nine picks of the 2024 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, this year’s wide receiver class isn’t as talented. However, the tight end class is loaded, with Tyler Warren as most scouts' No. 1 guy in the draft class.

Many mock drafts have the former Penn State star as a top 10 pick, coming off the board as early as fifth overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Warren's most likely landing spot is the New York Jets with the seventh overall pick. Don’t be surprised if a tight end-needy team like the Indianapolis Colts trades up for the former Penn State star.

Who Needs Aaron Rodgers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers had Rodgers in for a visit last month. Many believe the future Hall of Famer will eventually sign with the Steelers. However, head coach Mike Tomlin said the team has no deadline for reaching a deal with Rodgers, leaving the door open for Pittsburgh to find another quarterback option.

While Cam Ward is all but a lock to be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders’s draft range is anywhere from second overall to the second round. If the former Colorado star isn’t selected in the top 10 picks, he could slide down to the Steelers at 21st overall. With no second-round pick, Pittsburgh likely won’t pass on Sanders.

Jim Harbaugh Loves his Michigan Men

Nearly every 2024 NFL mock draft had the Los Angeles Chargers taking Blake Corum with their third-round pick because of the Harbaugh connection. Instead, they took a different Michigan star, linebacker Junior Colson. However, expect the Chargers to target a former Michigan star during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Los Angeles swapped out Joshua Palmer for Mike Williams in free agency. Yet, many thought the team would make a blockbuster move for a wide receiver like DK Metcalf or Tee Higgins. While the Chargers signed Tyler Conklin in free agency, that won’t stop them from jumping ahead of the Indianapolis Colts for Colston Loveland, especially after Harbaugh coached him at Michigan.

Houston, We Have a Solution!

The Houston Texans have made several moves to their offensive line this offseason, including three trades. They made a blockbuster move, sending Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders in exchange for four draft picks, including two Day 2 selections. The Texans also traded Kenyon Green to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 late-round pick swap.

While they signed Cam Robinson to a one-year deal worth up to $14.5 million, the veteran is a stop-gap option for Houston. However, the team can fix the problem with a massive trade. Last year, they traded for Stefon Diggs when they needed a wide receiver. Could the Texans make a blockbuster move during the NFL Draft and move up for one of the top offensive tackle prospects?

Time to Give Aidan Hutchinson a Running Mate

Last year, the Detroit Lions couldn’t stay healthy on defense. They lost several players to injured reserve, including Hutchinson, to a season-ending broken tibia. The superstar edge rusher was on fire before getting hurt, totaling 7.5 sacks in five games, accounting for 20.3% of the team’s total. Furthermore, he led the Lions in sacks, totaling 3.5 more than any other player, despite missing 12 games.

Detroit traded for Za’Darius Smith during the season. Unfortunately, the veteran didn’t have a massive impact, totaling four sacks with the Lions. More importantly, he doesn’t solve the team’s long-term need for an edge rusher opposite Hutchinson. Detroit has three picks in the top 100. They could package them together and get into the top 15, allowing them to add a big-name edge rusher.
