Declan Cronin, Andrew Nardi Resume Throwing
4 days agoMiami Marlins pitchers Declan Cronin (hip) and Andrew Nardi (back) have both resumed their throwing programs, according to Fish On First's Kevin Barral. Cronin, a 27-year-old right-hander, is recovering from a left-hip strain that he suffered late in spring training. If he can avoid setbacks with his hip, he could be an option for the Marlins' bullpen by mid- to late-April. In his first year in Miami in 2024, Cronin had a 4.35 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 72 K's and 25 walks in 70 1/3 relief innings. Nardi, a 26-year-old lefty, is on the 60-day injured list due to lower-back inflammation that shut him down in early March in camp. He is behind Cronin in his recovery and won't be eligible to make his 2025 debut until late May. In his third season with the Fish last year, Nardi posted a bloated 5.07 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 70 K's and 18 walks in 49 2/3 relief innings.

Andrew Nardi Begins Playing Catch
1 month agoMiami Marlins left-handed pitcher Andrew Nardi (back) played catch on Monday and could play catch again on Wednesday. The relief pitcher has battled a lower back injury throughout camp but is beginning to return to baseball activities. He was given a rest day on Tuesday in hopes of playing catch later on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status, as he could be in danger of missing Opening Day if this injury lingers. Last season, the 26-year-old held a 5.07 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP across 49 2/3 innings of work. He tallied an impressive 70 strikeouts but held a modest 8.6 percent walk rate. However, he did generate a 2.96 xERA with a .194 xBA, which suggests he could see significant positive regression when he returns to the bump. When healthy, he will have a high-leverage role in the bullpen and could compete for save opportunities.

Andrew Nardi Dealing With Lower-Back Inflammation
2 months agoMiami Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said that left-handed relief pitcher Andrew Nardi (back) is dealing with lower-back inflammation. As a result, Nardi will be behind the other pitchers at spring training. The 26-year-old southpaw missed the final five-plus weeks of last season due to an elbow injury as well, but hopefully his new back isn't serious enough to land him on the injured list to begin the 2025 regular season. Nardi had an ugly 5.07 ERA in 59 relief outings (49 2/3 innings) for the Fish last year, but hi 3.33 FIP, 70 strikeouts and only 18 walks show that he should be able to bounce back in 2025 in a high-leverage relief role if he can stay healthy. He also had an above-average 33.3 percent strikeout rate and 15 holds in 2024. It's unclear if Nardi will eventually be in the mix for saves, but at the very least, he should have fantasy appeal in holds leagues.

Andrew Nardi To Be Behind To Start Spring Training
2 months agoMiami Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said that left-hander Andrew Nardi (undisclosed) will be a little behind heading into spring training after something flared up on him this offseason. Nardi was forced to miss the last five weeks of the regular season in 2024 due to a left-elbow injury, so it's most likely related to that injury, but we'll provide a more concrete update on the specific nature of his setback when more news comes out. The 26-year-old southpaw made 59 relief appearances for the Fish last year in his third big-league season, posting a 5.07 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 70 strikeouts and 18 walks in 49 2/3 innings pitched. Nardi should have a better shot at some save chances this year at the back end of the bullpen, although Calvin Faucher and Jesus Tinoco should be considered the favorites right now. His 33.3% strikeout rate from last year makes him at least worth watching in holds leagues if he's healthy.

Andrew Nardi Lands On 15-Day Injured List
7 months agoThe Miami Marlins placed left-hander Andrew Nardi (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 22) on Saturday with a left-elbow muscle injury and recalled right-hander George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. Nardi got beat up in his last appearance against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday and could have been hurting then. The 26-year-old southpaw now has a 5.07 ERA (3.33 FIP) and a 1.25 WHIP with 70 strikeouts and 18 walks in 49 2/3 innings out of Miami's bullpen in 2024 in his third year in the big leagues. It's unclear if he'll be ready to go when his 15 days are up, but Nardi is not on the fantasy radar. Soriano, 25, has been even worse in his 19 2/3 innings in the big leagues this year, allowing 16 earned runs while walking nine and striking out 18 in 15 relief appearances.
