6 days agoToronto Blue Jays outfield prospect Alan Roden will get the starting nod in right field and bat in the nine-hole against Zach Eflin and the Baltimore Orioles. Roden was one of the most impressive hitters during spring training. Across 20 contests, the 25-year-old posted an impressive .407/.541/.704 slash line with two doubles and two long balls. He held a 6:4 BB:K. Last summer, the Creighton product spent the campaign split between Double-A and Triple-A. Across 54 games at Double-A, Roden posted a .267/.373/.432 slash line with 11 doubles and seven round-trippers. He then hit for an impressive .314/.406/.510 slash line across his first 71 games at Triple-A. Fantasy managers should expect Toronto to give Roden opportunities early in the campaign while Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is sidelined. He carries low value in DFS formats this afternoon, but is worth taking a flier on in deeper AL-only formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 week agoToronto Blue Jays outfield prospect Alan Roden has made the team's Opening Day roster out of spring training, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. Roden, a 25-year-old former third-rounder in 2022 out of Creighton University, will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game to open the 2025 season. He has an opportunity to serve in a reserve role off Toronto's bench early on with Daulton Varsho (shoulder) opening the year on the injured list. However, with Varsho not far off from a return, Roden's stay in the big leagues could be a short one. The club's No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, impressed with a .391 average (9-for-23) with two doubles and two home runs in 18 Grapefruit League games. He posted strong contact rates and on-base percentage in the minors, and while he can play all three outfield positions, his future is likely at a corner spot in Toronto.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 week agoToronto Blue Jays outfield prospect Alan Roden is firmly in the mix to make the Opening Day roster. With Daulton Varsho (shoulder) set to open the campaign on the injured list, the Blue Jays may give one of their top prospects a look at the major leagues. Through spring training, Roden has posted an impressive .367/.429/.733 slash line with two doubles and three home runs. He has held a 4:10 BB:K with one swiped bag. Last season, Roden opened the campaign at the Double-A level and eventually reached the top level of the minor leagues. Across his first 71 contests with Triple-A Buffalo, Roden posted an eye-catching .314/.406/.510 slash line with 15 doubles and nine home runs. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his stats, as he could be worth a look as a late-round pick in deeper formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoToronto Blue Jays outfield prospect Alan Roden has gone 7-for-16 with two doubles and two round-trippers during his first 11 spring training games. Roden has tallied three RBI with five walks and has yet to strike out. Roden is currently competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. However, given the depth in the Toronto outfield, the Blue Jays may opt to send Roden to Triple-A to further his development. However, this strong play will open the door for an early 2025 MLB debut. Last season, the Creighton product logged 71 games at Triple-A and posted a stellar .314/.406/.510 slash line with 15 doubles and nine home runs. Earlier in the summer at Double-A, Roden held a .263/.373/.432 line across 54 games at Double-A. If Roden continues to perform well in the Grapefruit League, he could be worth stashing in deeper redraft formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 month agoToronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said that outfield prospect Alan Roden has some high expectations in 2025. The 25-year-old former third-round pick of the 2022 MLB draft has been highly touted in the organization among players and executives. "He's just done so much to put himself in a position to move through the system quickly," Atkins said. The 25-year-old had a .319 on-base percentage between Double-A and Triple-A last year and also makes a ton of contact at the plate. He also drove the ball more consistently in 2024 and hit 16 long balls in 125 games in the minors. Roden is unlikely to crack Toronto's Opening Day roster out of spring training, but by the middle of the 2025 season, he should be in the big leagues and could even serve as Toronto's leadoff hitter. In addition to being a quick riser, he could be a future Gold Glover in the outfield for the Jays.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
