Dallas Goedert Top Landing Spots: 2025 NFL Trade Outlook

Dallas Goedert - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Which teams are potential landing spots for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert for fantasy football? John breaks down all the top landing spots for Dallas Goedert.

The Philadelphia Eagles are apparently attempting to trade their top tight end, Dallas Goedert, for at least a fourth-round pick in compensation. Whether or not they get their wish remains to be seen, but Goedert was still a reasonably productive TE in his final year with the Eagles with injuries aside.

Part of the reason they want to ship him off is likely the injury issues. For fantasy football purposes, those are less concerning than middling or just poor production, since when a player is hurt, you know you should bench them. If a player just isn't good or consistent, it's hard to know when to start them.

Goedert has logged three straight seasons without playing more than 14 games, and the offense as a whole is disrupted when players get injured as often as he does, but he should still have juice left in the tank. Tight ends tend to play well into their 30s if they have a history of good production. So what are the best landing spots for Goedert for the 2025 NFL season?

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers sort of, kind of, barely addressed their dire need for better pass-catchers by signing wide receiver Mike Williams to a one-year deal. But he's 31 years old with a long and brutal injury history, and hasn't played well since the 2022 season. Goedert would immediately upgrade this pass-catching corps with a solid receiving tight end, and would likely quickly become the second-favorite target of quarterback Justin Herbert. He'd also take coverage attention away from WR Ladd McConkey, which would boost the offense.

Herbert hasn't yet played with a good tight end, so it would be a different experience for him. I think he'd like it. Goedert would get an immediate upgrade at quarterback, and while the Chargers are a run-heavy team, they don't run the ball as much as the Eagles do, so he'd benefit from being on a higher-volume passing offense.

And Herbert has an absolute rocket launcher of an arm. If Goedert's separation abilities have fallen off markedly, Herbie would still be able to hit him in stride. There isn't much target competition outside of McConkey, either. WR Quentin Johnston still hasn't learned how to catch a football, and even though the Chargers tried to force him the ball often, it didn't pay off.

It's unclear what Los Angeles plans to do in the upcoming draft regarding the WR position. But it's an overall weak class, and they don't have a pick in the top-16, so they might opt to go in a different direction in the early rounds and pick one up later. This would give Goedert a path to good season-long volume.

New England Patriots

The combination of tight ends Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry didn't play inspiring football in 2024. The team also completely lacked pass-catching talent in the wide receiver room, as DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Ja'Lynn Polk, Javon Baker and crew aren't names any fantasy football manager liked to see in their starting lineup last season.

The team has addressed much of their defensive issues, but a TE like Goedert would present an immediate upgrade over what they have. In addition, it would give their offense more flexibility. Tight ends who are good pass-catchers and run-blockers can stay on the field for a majority of the game's snaps, and give teams favorable looks in coverage in the passing game while allowing them to call more run plays with bigger blockers on the field. Patriots new head coach, Mike Vrabel, has been known to run the football heavily during his time as a HC.

And even if they opt to choose a player like WR/CB Travis Hunter in the 2025 NFL Draft, they'll still have a need for more good pass-catchers. Thus far, the only big-name receivers that would have been worth making moves for, DK Metcalf and Davante Adams, are already signed with their new teams. I don't believe players like Cooper Kupp would be much help here, as he'll be 32 years old before the 2025 season starts.

There's not a ton of leg room for the Patriots here. Goedert would get very nice volume right away, too.

Houston Texans

The Texans didn't have a great season last year on offense, largely due to the struggles of quarterback C.J. Stroud. But they don't have any good tight ends on their roster currently, and were they to trade for or at least sign Goedert if he were released, he would immediately earn a solid role with the team. It seems unlikely that they'd want him for more than a year, but with WR Tank Dell likely missing the whole season, No. 88 would probably get a good number of targets from the beginning.

Houston ran a lot of 12-personnel sets last year under offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. He's since been fired, but it could have been more due to the signing of running back Joe Mixon that the team shifted towards having two tight ends on the field more often. As explained above, Goedert could give Houston more flexibility choosing between runs and passes and with play calls out of certain formations.

TE Dalton Schultz is the "best" pass-catching tight on the Texans right now, and he was just not good last season. Houston did sign WR Christian Kirk, but they still need more help in the pass-catching department. And Houston's new offensive coordinator would be wise to call more quick passes and timing throws for Stroud, who struggled mightily due to poor offensive line play and consistent pressure in 2024.

New Orleans Saints

I'm not completely thrilled with the Saints quarterback (and general cap) situation right now, but Goedert landing on a team with his former offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, as head coach, would make sense. Moore tended to heavily lean into the passing game with the Los Angeles Chargers. He didn't do so last season, but it was smart of him to adjust to the presence of running back Saquon Barkley and QB Jalen Hurts, a prolific runner of the football at his position.

With the Chargers, Moore was the architect of a fantastic season by WR Keenan Allen, in which he nearly gained 1,300 yards receiving. There's plenty of target competition in New Orleans between wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed and running back Alvin Kamara, and whoever they might bring in, but with tight end Taysom Hill likely out for most if not all of the 2025 season, they'll have a need at the TE position.

Goedert could fill in that role nicely.
