Cam Smith To Play Right Field In Spring Game Soon
37 seconds agoHouston Astros third base prospect Cam Smith will play right field in a Grapefruit League game soon, according to manager Joe Espada. Before that, Smith is scheduled to played five innings in right field in a game on the back fields in camp on Tuesday. It remains to be seen if the Astros are serious about using the 22-year-old in the outfield during the 2025 season, but it could give Smith another avenue to playing time down the road. The No. 58 overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline, came over from the Chicago Cubs in the trade that sent outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Cubs in the offseason. Smith was the 14th overall pick last year and hit .313/.396/.609 with a 1.004 OPS, seven home runs and 24 RBI in 32 games across three minor-league levels after being drafted. He has the potential to hit for average and power but will likely spend most of 2025 in the minors.
