The LIV Golf League will hold this week’s event at Hong Kong Golf Club, located in Fanling, Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Golf Club was established in 1889 with the course and clubhouse being located in Happy Valley. The Old Course at Fanling was not built until 1911 and the clubhouse did not open until 1914. In 1931 the New Course was built and finally in 1969 the Eden Course opened. The New Course and Eden Course combine to make up the 18 holes played at the Hong Kong Open.
The Hong Kong Open has been played since 1959. It is the only club other than the Augusta National Golf Club to host the same professional golf tournament for more than 60 years. Several LIV Golf League players have played in the Hong Kong Open over the history of the event, and there have been a few notable performances. Majesticks captain, Ian Poulter, won this event in 2010 with a winning score of -22. Patrick Reed and Ben Campbell have won the last two renditions of the Hong Kong Open. Cam Smith, Sergio Garcia, Peter Uihlien, and David Puig, among others, have had notable finishes here as well.
The event will be played Friday-Sunday and will air on the new broadcast network Fox Sports. Due to the tournament being played internationally, the start time for round one will be 11:15pm EST. The tournament can also be viewed through LIV Golf Plus and the LIV Golf App.

LIV Golf Hong Kong Course Breakdown
Below is the official round one scorecard provided by LIV Golf.
Hole | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Out |
Par | 4 | 3 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 34 |
Yardage | 469 | 149 | 551 | 288 | 192 | 447 | 380 | 188 | 493 | 3157 |
Hole | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 | 15 | 16 | 17 | 18 | In |
Par | 4 | 4 | 3 | 5 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 36 |
Yardage | 367 | 466 | 144 | 529 | 395 | 429 | 411 | 406 | 410 | 3554 |
The course is set to be played as a 6,710-yard par 70. Last year, before the event, I touched base with Travis Smyth, a former LIV golf player and current Asian Tour professional golfer, who was kind enough to give me some insight into the course from his experience playing the Hong Kong Open.
Smyth noted that “It’s a really short tight track. There aren’t too many holes where bombers can unleash a drive. Everyone will be hitting to the same spots on a lot of holes. You must get it in play off the tee; otherwise, it’s difficult to score. Whoever is most dialed in with their wedges and irons will win.”
This was proven to be true last season when Abraham Ancer won the event. Ancer is one of the most accurate drivers of the golf ball in the world and is known for performing well on short positional golf courses. Ancer dominated the first two rounds and took a five-shot lead into round three, where he proceeded to make things more interesting than they had to be. Still, the 34-year-old grinded out a victory in a three-man playoff over Cam Smith and Paul Casey.
I will certainly be focusing more on plotters this week than bombers. The distance off the tee will be close to irrelevant. Instead, you need players who can get hot with the irons and dial in on the greens.

LIV Golf Betting Strategy & Selections -Hong Kong
David Puig +2200 (FanDuel)
The course fit probably isn’t perfect for Puig, but few players are entering in better form. In four total worldwide starts in 2025, Puig’s worst finish is a T6 in Riyadh. He has gained strokes off the tee, on approach, and in putting in all four of these starts. The 23-year-old appears to be a rising star and is looking for that first signature win.
When David Puig joined LIV Golf, he was ranked well outside the top 2000 in the world. Since then he has travelled the globe to play in as many Asian Tour and DP World Tour events as possible to gain access to majors, and he has now reached a career high of 87 on the OWGR.

While +2200 is a tough price to pay on a guy who doesn’t quite have big win equity yet, he’s been close too many times not to cross that finish line soon. While Puig didn’t play great in LIV Hong Kong 2025, he did finish T15 in the Hong Kong Open in 2023. Let’s hope that the third time is the charm around this track for the young Spaniard.
Carlos Ortiz +3300 (FanDuel)
Carlos Ortiz is coming off a T2 finish in Adelaide in the most recent LIV event. Per datagolf, he gained 1.16 shots on approach on the field in that event, a stat that will be pivotal in winning this week. Ortiz is usually a pretty reliable iron player; last season he finished 13th in the league in Green in Regulation percentage. Ortiz finished T4 at this event last season, one shot back of the three-man playoff.
Nothing but love from his teammates for Carlos Ortiz. pic.twitter.com/Jav81H86Ow
— LIV Golf Nation (@LIVGolfNation) February 25, 2024
Despite not being one of the biggest names in the league, Ortiz finds himself in the mix to win more often than people realize. The 33-year-old Mexican won LIV Houston last year as well as the International Series Oman. In 17 starts in 2024, he registered two wins and three additional top-10 finishes. He lost in a playoff at LIV Tucson in 2023 and had three additional top-10 LIV finishes. He also won Copa Prisa in the Mexican golf league.
Sam Horsfield +6500 (FanDuel)
Sam Horsfield is finally back, healthy. Horsfield injured his hip in the second round of LIV Adelaide in April of 2023 and was out nearly six months before returning at the end of September. Despite a T2 finish in Nashville, 2024 was an up and down year for the 28-year-old while he struggled to find consistency. It finally looks like Horsfield is back and confident in his game.
Championship Sunday… @hr59sam gets us underway💫 pic.twitter.com/Kju77YN0jc
— Majesticks GC (@MajesticksGC) February 16, 2025
The Englishman finished T12 to start the season in Riyadh and followed it up with a T7 finish in Australia. He gained 1.06 strokes on approach at LIV Adelaide and has putted well in both LIV starts so far in 2025. While it’s been three years, Horsfield is no stranger to getting across the finish line for victories. He won three times on the DP World Tour between 2020 and 2022.
Henrik Stenson +12000 (FanDuel)
Henrik Stenson is an extremely intriguing longshot this week. He is deadly accurate off the tee, which is going to absolute pivotal this week. While guys may be able to club down and therefore improve accuracy, there is no need to worry about this with Stenson. Stenson looked solid with his irons last start, gaining 0.55 strokes on the field on approach, en route to a T12 finish.
Not the most conventional birdie…😂🤯
Throwback to Hong Kong last year where @henrikstenson made a birdie after hitting his tee shot INTO a fans pocket👀🇭🇰 pic.twitter.com/UzUIGsXQ1W
— Majesticks GC (@MajesticksGC) March 3, 2025
If the putter gets going, this course could be perfect for Stenson and give him a real chance to return to the winner’s circle. He finished T8 at this event last season.
