Looking at the practice speeds for this weekend's EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix, you wouldn't know that AJ Allmendinger was struggling very much. The Kaulig Racing driver was fifth-fastest in the opening session on Saturday, and wound up 11th-fastest in the second practice soon after that. Allmendinger ended up qualifying 12th for Sunday afternoon's race at Circuit of the Americas. However, the 43-year-old road course ace wasn't overly happy with his car by any means. "We kind of went back and forth on balance, I think we can get the balance better. Qualifying, honestly, the balance still wasn't overly good. I was kind of shocked by the kind of lap time that came up," Allmendinger said. "So I think we've got OK speed in the race car, but we've just got to work on balance and then, with that, hopefully, that saves the tires a little bit better." With that being said, AJ is a road course ace and has finishes of fifth and sixth to his credit at this track. At $8,900 on DraftKings this weekend, Allmendinger is a tournament option for sure, but he's not really a no-brainer pick on Sunday. --Jordan McAbee

A.J. Allmendinger alternating between full-time and part-time status in the NASCAR Cup Series hasn't seemed to have done anything to slow him down, as he now sits six points below the playoff cut line for a not-great Kaulig Racing team after two top-10 finishes in the last three races. But Darlington is one of his worst tracks, and it is the only Cup Series track with multiple dates where he has never posted a top-10 finish (his best is 13th in his last start in 2023). He has also never led a lap at the track and is starting slightly worse than mid-pack in 22nd. He's probably starting too well to earn many place-differential points and is starting too poorly to even sniff the lead or a good finish at a track where he has struggled. He is best avoided for DFS play, even at his relatively inexpensive $6,900 salary.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

When it comes to AJ Allmendinger, we mainly think about him when the NASCAR Cup Series visits a road course track, but you need to keep him in the conversation at Homestead-Miami Speedway, too. In the Next Gen era, Allmendinger is tied with Christopher Bell for the best average finish (5.3) at this track. Over those three races, Dinger has been able to post two top-five results and hasn't finished worse than eighth. It's especially impressive considering his average starting position during that span is 22.3. This weekend, Allmendinger qualified up in 10th for Sunday afternoon's Straight Talk Wireless 400. He also did that in the 2022 race at this track and came away with a third-place result when it was all said and done. AJ is a very risky DFS play this weekend because he starts so high in the field, but his track record still makes him a playable option in large-field tournament formats. --Jordan McAbee

Las Vegas Motor Speedway has always been a relatively good race track for AJ Allmendinger, especially considering he isn't known for his oval racing, and the gamble paid off for fantasy managers that backed him this weekend, as the Kaulig Racing driver scored his first top-10 finish of the season on Sunday afternoon in the Pennzoil 400. In addition to crossing the finish line in eighth place at the conclusion, Allmendinger also ended up with a sixth-place result in the first stage. He now sits 23rd in the points standings after five races. Good news for Allmendinger fans: the Cup Series heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway next, where The Dinger has been strong at recently with finishes of eighth or better in each of the last three races there.--Jordan McAbee

Although he's more known for his road course prowess, don't overlook AJ Allmendinger in the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. Allmendinger has a knack for pulling out respectable finishes in the desert, as he has posted a top-15 result in four of his 13 career starts at the track. Allmendinger last raced in the Cup Series here back in 2023 and walked away with 18th- and 21st-place results in the two races with Kaulig Racing. This weekend, the No. 16 Chevrolet was 17th-fastest in practice and ended up qualifying in 18th-place for Sunday's race. On DraftKings, Allmendinger is priced at $6,600, and that relatively high salary combined with AJ's high starting position should keep his ownership pretty low on this slate. With decent overall upside, Allmendinger could be a viable option for tournament builds in DFS on Sunday.--Jordan McAbee
