2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlooks For Third Base
Royce Lewis, Minnesota Twins
Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis hit .233 with 16 home runs, 47 RBI, 40 runs, and zero stolen bases. Health remains the greatest obstacle for Lewis in his career; the talent is clear when he is available to play. Leg injuries continue to rob Lewis of playing time for the Minnesota Twins.
With a current ADP of 108, Lewis is being selected by fantasy players at the beginning of the eighth round, which feels like a steep price for a player who has never had more than 325 plate appearances in a major league season.
However, should his availability to play meet with his incredible skills, there is a 30-home run upside here. Lewis is still only 25 and could turn into a terrific and useful player. Caveat emptor: have a contingency plan in place should Lewis miss time with injury in 2025.
However, if you are the type of player who is willing to tolerate what seems like a substantial risk, Lewis could pay huge dividends for you in 2025. Good luck!

Austin Riley, Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley had been a model of consistency from 2021 through 2023, putting up strikingly similar stats across those three seasons while averaging 159 games played. Last season, the 2x All-Star started off slow, hitting just .220 with an almost unfathomable three home runs through June 13 (229 PA), but from June 14 through August 18, he hit .292 with 16 homers (240 PA).
The 2x Silver Slugger Award winner's season ended prematurely after just 110 games when his hand was fractured after being hit by a pitch. Despite the slow start, Riley was still on pace for a 30-plus home run season on the back of a 14.9% barrel rate, which was actually 1% higher than the prior season.
His hard-hit rate and average exit velocity were both 96th percentile, while his Contact% was identical to 2023 (74.3%). With no indications of a drop-off in skillset and expected to be fully healthy for spring training, the Mississippi native's outlook for 2025 makes him a top option at 3B once again.
The 27-year-old currently ranks as the No. 5 third baseman at RotoBaller and 28th overall. With his NFBC ADP of 31, he appears to be a slight value right now.

Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez stayed hot in a nearly historic age-31 campaign, falling one home run short of a 40-40 year. He was robbed of Game 162, which got canceled for Cleveland due to weather, so we can tell ourselves he'd have gone deep for No. 40.
If you include his playing in 58 of 60 games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, JoRam has played in at least 93 percent of Cleveland's games in five straight years. And last year's surge to 41 stolen bases after not topping 30 since 2018 shows he isn't playing it safe either. Mix in that he's hit between .279 and .282 in his last three years, and we have a stable force at a thin third base position for the upcoming year.
Despite relatively unremarkable slugging metrics, Statcast gave him 40.6 expected HRs. But we must point out that 2023 had a .299 xBA behind it, which dropped to .259 last year, which aligns with his 2022 profile. The results look the same, but don't be surprised if his AVG drops into the .260s, which would be fine if the power-speed contributions keep flowing.
But many projection systems, such as Steamer and ATC, have him hitting nearly .280 with another 30/30 campaign coming. He's snuck back into the top-five picks per early NFBC ADP and our RotoBaller ranks after going around pick 15 in most 2024 drafts, which reflects the top-heavy nature of 2025's 3B class.
