Orelvis Martinez Bouncing Between Second And Third Base
1 day agoToronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez is expected to split time between second and third base during spring training. Blue Jays manager John Schneider noted that the infielder still has a lot to prove on the defensive side of his game. Last season, Martinez got the call to the majors in June but was only able to play in one contest before being suspended for PED use. However, he has served his suspension and is eligible to return to the MLB. In 74 contests at Triple-A last season, the No. 2 ranked prospect in the system posted a .267/.346/.523 line with 19 doubles and 17 home runs. He held a 27:76 BB:K ratio and did not swipe a bag. During spring training, fantasy managers should expect Martinez to compete for a depth role alongside Addison Barger and Will Wagner. However, given the time he missed due to the suspension, he will likely open the campaign at Triple-A.
