Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez was working on his new pitch, a sweeper, during Thursday's practice. This sweeper is different from the slider that he relied on 15.8 percent of the time last season (third-most used pitch). Last season, Rodriguez logged 116 2/3 innings and saw his season cut short due to a lat injury in August. However, before the injury, the former top prospect held a 3.86 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. He tallied an impressive 130 punchouts and served up walks at a solid 7.3 percent rate. He also generated a 3.72 xERA and a .231 xBA, which suggests that he could see some minor positive regression during the 2025 campaign. Last season, his slider was ineffective, as it generated a high .270 xBA and a .513 xSLG. A new sweeper could not only strengthen his repertoire but could also increase the success of his slider. Fantasy managers should expect the 25-year-old to be the rotation's ace during the 2025 season.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow, lat, triceps), who was shifted to the 60-day injured list on Monday, hasn't started throwing yet. Things have gone from bad to worse for Rodriguez through the first month of the 2025 season. The 25-year-old former top prospect started the year on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right elbow and then recently was diagnosed with a mild right-lat strain after he was scratched from a bullpen session earlier this month. The Orioles hope that Rodriguez will resume throwing in a couple of weeks, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to return until June in a best-case scenario. A lat injury ended his season early last year as well in what was a strong campaign. Fantasy managers that drafted Rodriguez before his injury need to hang tight and keep him stashed in an IL spot.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow, lat) has been diagnosed with a mild lat strain, according to manager Brandon Hyde. Rodriguez is already feeling better and will start throwing again in a couple of weeks. "I'm trying to stay optimistic about it," Rodriguez said. It's good news for a pitcher that had already been rehabbing right-elbow inflammation that landed him on the 15-day injured list to begin the 2025 season. Still, the 25-year-old's lat injury will push back is overall timetable to make his season debut. In a best-case scenario, we're now looking at Rodriguez potentially not make his season debut until some point in June. It's a disappointing turn of events for a pitcher that had made encouraging strides last year before having his season cut short in August due to a lat injury. Fantasy managers must remain patient and keep him stashed in an IL spot.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow, shoulder) was scratched from his side session on Thursday because he's dealing with more soreness in his right shoulder. The Orioles are sending him for imaging. MLB.com's Jake Rill points out that this is a separate issue from the elbow inflammation/triceps injury that landed Rodriguez on the injured list to begin the 2025 season. This is ominous news for the 25-year-old, but we'll have to wait to see what the Orioles say after they get his test results back. In addition to these injuries, Rodriguez missed the final two months of the 2024 campaign due to a right-lat strain. At the very least, fantasy managers stashing Rodriguez should expect an even lengthier absence, but hopefully this doesn't evolve into a season-ending injury. When healthy, Rodriguez is a top-of-the-rotation arm.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) will throw his third bullpen session on Thursday, according to MLB.com's Jake Rill. There's still no timetable for his return, though, as there is "a lot ahead" in his recovery. The 25-year-old is progressing in his recovery from right-elbow inflammation that cropped up during spring training, but he has yet to suffer a setback. He will need to start facing live hitters next before eventually being cleared to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. Because Baltimore won't rush Rodriguez to make his 2025 debut, fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect him to return until early May in a best-case scenario. The former first-rounder was shut down early last year due to a lat strain but was solid before that in his second MLB season, going 13-4 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 130 K's and 36 walks in 20 starts. Stash Rodriguez in all fantasy formats.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
