Owen Caissie Shut Down With Groin Tightness
1 day agoChicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell said on Thursday that outfield prospect Owen Caissie (groin) has been shut down in camp with left-groin tightness. Caissie also had core-muscle surgery over the winter, so this is a concerning development, especially after the Cubs designated outfielder Alexander Canario on Thursday. Per MLB Pipeline, Caissie is baseball's No. 54 overall prospect entering the 2025 season, but even if healthy, the 22-year-old is expected to begin the year continuing his development at Triple-A Iowa. However, Caissie should eventually be given a chance in the outfield at the major-league level in 2025, and a long-term injury would be a serious blow to their outfield depth after they also traded away Cody Bellinger in the offseason. The fact that Caissie has the potential to hit 30 homers over a full season is reason enough to stash him in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues in 2025, depending on the seriousness of his latest injury.
