Max Muncy 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Veteran Infielder Can Provide Power Numbers
Max Muncy was injured (oblique) for half of the 2024 season, making it difficult to find his groove. He was able to return to the lineup for the Dodgers' postseason run and help them secure their eighth World Series title. When healthy, Muncy slashed .232/.358/.494 with 15 home runs, 47 runs scored, and 48 RBI in 293 plate appearances during the regular season. The power has never been in question for the lefty-slugger, as he hit 36 home runs in 2023, but over the past three seasons, he has yet to hit better than a .232 average. During his career, Muncy has also been strikeout prone, averaging a 24.7% strikeout rate. As we look forward to the 2025 season, Muncy should continue to bat in the middle of this potent Dodgers lineup, batting behind hitters like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith, which should provide him with plenty of opportunities to drive runs in. Fantasy managers looking for a powerful bat in a lineup expected to score many runs will want to target Muncy in drafts. That said, they should not count on him providing managers with a high average in category leagues and should expect him to continue striking out at nearly a 25% clip. He ranks 228.0 ADP on the NFBC, corresponding with the 262 overall ranking at RotoBaller.

Max Muncy Mashes Three-Run Homer In Dodgers Win
Max Muncy broke open Wednesday night's win over the Athletics with a three-run home run in the eighth inning off Tyler Ferguson. Muncy's homer was his only hit of the night, as he went 1-for-5 with a strikeout and three RBI. It was just his second home run of the season, and he is still hitting only .191 with a .285 wOBA on the year. He also has a 29 percent strikeout rate, which would be a career worst. The 34-year-old lefty veteran still has time to turn things around, especially if his homer on Wednesday is the start of a power surge. He'll need to find more consistency, though, before he becomes a regular fantasy option even in his regular role in the Dodgers' high-powered offense.

Max Muncy Sitting Versus Southpaw
Max Muncy is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Athletics. This appears to be a routine rest day for Muncy with a left-handed starting pitcher on the mound for the A's. Normally, Muncy is worth rostering in fantasy formats due to his power ability. However, Muncy has been awful to start the season as he's slashing .186/.311/.294 with one home run and seven RBI heading into this contest. Kike Hernandez will bat sixth and cover third base versus left-hander Jeffrey Springs on Tuesday. Muncy is probably worth holding in deep leagues, but isn't offering much fantasy value right now.

Max Muncy Extends Hitting Streak To Six Games
Max Muncy extended his current hitting streak at Triple-A to six games on Wednesday. In this contest, Muncy went 4-for-5 with a double. Across his first six games at the Triple-A, Muncy has posted an impressive .414/.400/.655 slash line with four doubles and one round-tripper. Muncy was able to break camp with the MLB roster, with Zack Gelof missing time. However, through his first 21 games in the MLB, Muncy posted an underwhelming .176/.211/.279 slash line with just one home run. During this stretch, he generated a low .248 xwOBA with a low 25.5 percent hard-hit rate. Fantasy managers should expect the No. 6-ranked prospect in the system to return to the big leagues later this summer, especially if he continues this steady production. For now, he is worth stashing in deeper AL-only formats.

Max Muncy Resting Against Southpaw
Max Muncy will retreat to the bench for Friday's series opener in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies with left-hander Jesus Luzardo toeing the rubber. Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas will get the nod at the hot corner and will hit eighth against Luzardo, who he has one hit against in just two career at-bats. Muncy has been cold to begin the 2025 season offensively, although he did have a two-run double in Wednesday's walk-off win over the Atlanta Braves. Overall, the 34-year-old veteran has gone just 3-for-25 with a run scored and two RBI in his first seven games, so perhaps a day of rest will do him some good on the road. Rojas, 36, isn't really known for his exploits with the bat, so fantasy managers should look elsewhere at third base in DFS. He has one hit in his first 16 at-bats this year.
