Michael Petersen Designated For Assignment
18 seconds agoAccording to Scott Mitchell of TSN Sports, the Toronto Blue Jays designated right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen for assignment. This transaction opened a roster spot for right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer, who the team officially signed on Tuesday. Petersen made his MLB debut last season and logged 19 2/3 innings to the tune of a 5.94 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. He struck out 14 batters and showed poor command as he held a high 12.2 percent walk rate. However, Petersen was effective at the Triple-A level, posting an impressive 1.64 ERA with a 0.76 WHIP across 33 frames. He struck out 44 batters and served up just eight free passes. Even though he only got a brief taste of the majors, he could draw interest on waivers, given his success at Triple-A.
