Elvis Alvarado Claimed By Athletics
3 mins agoAccording to Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Athletics have claimed right-handed pitcher Elvis Alvarado. Alvarado was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Pittsburgh Pirates to open a spot on the roster for infielder Adam Frazier. The 25-year-old pitcher has yet to reach the major leagues. Last season, the right-hander made his Triple-A debut and performed quite well. Across 48 1/3 innings with Triple-A Jacksonville, Alvarado posted a 2.79 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP. He struck out 71 batters while serving up 38 free passes. Across 23 2/3 career innings at the Double-A level, Alvarado posted a 3.80 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect the right-hander to compete for a spot on the Opening Day Roster but will likely open the campaign at the Triple-A level.
