Nick Lodolo 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Carrying Elite Upside At The End Of Drafts
3 days agoCincinnati Reds pitcher Nick Lodolo has been on fantasy managers' radar over the past few seasons due to his high strikeout upside in his first year in the big leagues (2022). The first-round pick out of TCU got called up to the big leagues in 2023 and made 19 starts (101 1/3 innings) and went (4-7) with an impressive 3.66 ERA (3.90 FIP), a 1.25 WHIP, and an 11.41 K/9. To put that into perspective, last year's NL Cy Young winner, Chris Sale, had an 11.4 K/9. A stress reaction in his left tibia derailed Lodolo's 2023 campaign, as he only logged 34 1/3 innings. In 2024, Lodolo returned to form as he was racking up the strikeouts, and although his numbers weren't as similar to his 2022 season, he maintained a 9.52 K/9 and a 1.20 WHIP to go with his 4.76 ERA. Lodolo was a bit unlucky in the 2024 season, as his xERA (expected earned run average) was 3.72, showing potential signs of progression heading into the 2025 season. Entering the season, Lodolo agreed to a one-year, $1.975 million contract with the Reds this offseason to avoid arbitration. Fantasy managers looking to find a high-upside starting pitcher should target him at his 251.0 ADP on the NFBC, which aligns with 222 overall ranking at RotoBaller.
