Marlins Claim Connor Gillispie Off Waivers From Braves
1 day agoThe Miami Marlins claimed right-hander Connor Gillispie off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. In a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated catcher Jhonny Pereda for assignment, according to sources. Gillispie will give the Fish some organizational pitching depth as both a starter and a reliever in his time in the minor leagues last year. The 27-year-old former ninth-round selection by the Baltimore Orioles in 2019 out of Virginia Commonwealth University made his major-league debut in 2024 with the Cleveland Guardians and allowed two earned runs while walking five and striking out eight in eight innings over three relief appearances. At Triple-A Columbus in 27 outings (15 starts), he had a 4.05 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 119 strikeouts and 48 walks in 113 1/3 innings. Gillispie is nowhere near the fantasy radar.
