Pebble Beach Pro-Am Open PGA Power Rankings: Top 10 Golfers To Watch

Professional golf takes center stage in the world of sports this week as we get the season debut of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy playing in a signature event at the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links. The west coast swing continues, and $20 million dollars are in the purse for the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Set along the Pacific coastline, Pebble Beach provides some of the most legendary views in golf. We have a stacked field on hand for this week and several players eager to capitalize on some early season form, with others finally looking to rev the engine on the PGA Tour.

I have carefully evaluated the field-to-project proper course fits and looked heavily into how players' incoming form has been in the categories that matter the most here. Let's dig into my Top-10 Power Rankings for the 2025 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

No. 10 - Keegan Bradley

  • Continues to gain strokes across the board in early-season events. He's gained +15 strokes on the field through three tournaments in 2025.
  • T11 last season at Pebble Beach and three consecutive top 15s to start this year.
  • Underrated wedge player. Ranked No. 7 in the field in proximity from inside 100 yards.

No. 9 - Sungjae Im

  • Hard to ignore two Top-4 results in three starts thus far in 2025.
  • Im is making a ton of birdies, but inopportune bogeys have cost him from threatening the leaders on Sunday.
  • Has been great at putting on POA grass. Ranked eighth in the field with career stats on POA.

No. 8 - Patrick Cantlay

  • Cantlay has been exceptional on short courses. Ranks fourth in SG: Total on courses under 7,200 yards.
  • Dominant at Pebble Beach in the last five years: T11, T4, T3, T11.
  • Undeterred by the slow play of pro-am formats. Finished T5 at the Amex two weeks ago.

No. 7 - Jason Day

  • Mr. Pebble Beach. He's the No. 1 ranked player in SG: Total at Pebble Beach.
  • He's back to regularly gaining strokes putting. He's top-5 in the field inside of 15 ft. over the last 50 rounds.
  • Iron play is trending. Current form is trending. Fashion form is on fire. Can't wait to see his look at Pebble this week.

No. 6 - Collin Morikawa

  • One of the favorites, but until he finds some sort of consistency with the putter, he's tough to back at a course that yields a ton of birdies.
  • T14 last year, but odds lost strokes on Approach for the week. Second place in his last start at the Sentry.
  • Has not played in a month. WD from the Farmers last week. Morikawa typically excels in California so this is a comfort spot to return.

No. 5 - Ludvig Aberg

  • Prematurely crowned him at Torrey Pines. I respect the grind through the weekend while battling the flu.
  • Second place at this event last year and was in great shape to win if they were able to complete the final round.
  • Big advantage with distance off the tee, and he's top-6 in the field in proximity inside of 100 yards on approach.

No. 4 - Hideki Matsuyama

  • No. 1 in SG: Approach over the last 36 rounds. Hideki is dialed.
  • Continued to stripe his irons at Torrey Pines last week. He gained +6.5 on approach.
  • Does his damage early in the season historically. Has already captured victory in Hawaii. He has struggled a bit at Pebble Beach, though. T71 last season.

No. 3 - Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy has been known to take his time when it comes to embracing the grind of the long PGA Tour season. Like most years, he has spent his early season competition in events all over the world on the DP World Tour and is set to headline the TGL match this Monday in Palm Beach for the Boston Common.

As you can imagine, getting up to speed takes some time for McIlroy. He finished T66 in his debut at this tournament last season in his first appearance here since 2018 (MC). Something about this course just doesn't seem to fit the eye of McIlroy, who would probably be skipping this event had he elected to tee it up in the first signature event at The Sentry.

Statistically, his profile here has a lot of red figures, which doesn't bode well. All that said, it's Rory. He's one of the top three players in the world and if he drives it well, like he did in those DP World Tour starts, he should be able to dismantle Pebble Beach and turn it into a pitch and putt. Is this the week he finally figures out Pebble Beach?

No. 2 - Justin Thomas

I'll just continue to beat this drum. Justin Thomas is going to have a big year, both his form and his confidence have returned in 2025. Thomas is -79 under par in his last four starts on the PGA Tour and finished in solo second place two weeks ago at The American Express.

He's been such a reliable wedge and iron player throughout his career, even during times of struggle. The big difference maker for Thomas is his newly found confidence with the putter. He gained +2.8 putting at the Amex and +1.2 at The Sentry. When the rest of his game is so sound, a modest gain with the flat stick puts him in great shape to win.

Pebble Beach is right up his alley. Thomas has achieved a ton of success on short courses in his career. He even managed a T6 result at this event last season despite losing -2.3 with the putter. The victory is coming soon and I like his chances a lot this week at Pebble.

No. 1 - Scottie Scheffler

There was some degree of uncertainty regarding his status this week, but news broke late last week that Scottie Scheffler is ready to make his season debut at Pebble Beach. He, of course, is coming off both an injured hand that required surgery and also having just completed one of the most historically successful seasons ever on the PGA Tour.

Scheffler hits a ton of fairways and gains strokes off the tee nearly every time he puts a tee in the ground. He's also the best long-term iron player in the field. It's hard to point to a single metric that Scheffler hasn't dominated, the only concern is understanding how much he has been able to actually practice leading in.

Scheffler finished T6 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am last year. I will be a close observer of his press conferences early in the week to see how he answers questions about his practice routine and how he's honestly feeling about the status of his game. He's the clear-cut No. 1 until further notice. The man is back!

Enjoy The Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and thanks for reading! Good luck, RotoBaller family!
