Dodgers Sign Roki Sasaki
2 mins agoAccording to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Japanese starting pitcher Roki Sasaki. Sasaki was one of the top pitchers on the free agent market this offseason. Several teams held meetings with Sasaki throughout the offseason, including the San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and New York Mets. However, the Dodgers were able to get the deal done just one year after signing another overseas star pitcher, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. In the 2024 season, the hard-throwing right-hander struck out 129 batters across 111 innings of work in the NPB. He posted a strong 2.35 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Earlier this offseason, the Dodgers signed starting pitcher Blake Snell to a five-year $182 million contract. The Dodgers now boast one of the strongest and deepest rotations in the sport, with Snell, Sasaki, Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani slated to be the top five options. This transaction may make it difficult for Tony Gonsolin, Landon Knack, and Bobby Miller to see consistent starts. Given his strikeout potential, fantasy managers should view Sasaki as a high-upside pick at his current 98.16 ADP on the NFBC.
