The Washington Commanders had low expectations this season. While many were excited about Jayden Daniels, the team was expected to finish with a bottom-10 record this year. Yet, the Commanders had different plans.
Washington ended the regular season with a 12-5 record. It finished second in the NFC East division, two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles, making the playoffs for the first time in four years.
Yet, there was a point during the regular season where Washington struggled. It lost three consecutive games from Week 10 through Week 12. However, the Commanders finished the year playing well, winning their final five contests.

Why The Washington Commanders Can Win Super Bowl LIX
Last week, Washington faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. The game was a competitive matchup, with the Commanders winning 23-20 on a game-winning field goal by Zane Gonzalez as time expired. However, it was far from an easy win, as the kick bounced off the upright before going in.
Their reward for defeating the NFC South division champions is a matchup on Saturday night against the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions. Unfortunately, the betting market has no faith in the Commanders, as the Lions are nearly double-digit favorites. Yet, don’t be surprised if Washington pulls off the upset.
Divisional Round:

Washington’s offense lacks big-name players. Daniels made the Pro Bowl as a rookie while Terry McLaurin had a career year. However, the rest of the offense lacks star power. Yet, the Commanders had one of the top offenses in the NFL, ranking fifth in points scored per game (28.5).
Meanwhile, Washington’s defense was solid but not anything special. It ranked 18th in scoring defense, allowing 23 points per game. The trio of Bobby Wagner, Jeremy Chinn, and Frankie Luvu lead the unit.
If the Commanders are going to defeat the Lions and make a Super Bowl run, the offense must continue to play at a high level. More importantly, the defense must do enough to keep opposing powerhouse offenses from scoring over 30 points.
