The Detroit Lions were once one of the most embarrassing teams in the NFL. They are one of two franchises to lose every game in a season. However, all that is in the past.
Detroit has become one of the most liked and successful franchises in the league since Dan Campbell took over as the head coach. Last year, the Lions made it to the NFC Championship Game, losing to the San Francisco 49ers. They have made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons after making the postseason three times over the previous 23 years.
Many believe Detroit could win its first Super Bowl in franchise history. Are the Lions destined to end the drought and win Super Bowl LIX? Let’s look at their case.

Why The Detroit Lions Can Win Super Bowl LIX
Last year, Detroit won the NFC North division, earning the No. 3 seed in the playoffs. Despite dealing with several injuries, the Lions were even better this season. They earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, giving them a first-round bye.
Detroit will host the Washington Commanders on Saturday night in their first playoff game this year. These two teams have faced off four times in the playoffs, with the last matchup coming during the 1999 season. However, the Commanders and Lions faced off in a regular-season contest in 2022, with Detroit winning.
Divisional Round:

The Lions are heavy favorites in the game. However, Detroit must be at the top of its game in the conference title matchup against either the Los Angeles Rams or Philadelphia Eagles.
Jared Goff leads an offense loaded with weapons. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery form the best one-two punch at running back in the NFL. Meanwhile, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta give Goff an outstanding trio of weapons in the passing game.
Meanwhile, the defense has been obliterated by injuries. Yet, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has the unit playing well. While the offense gets most of the media attention, the Lions will only win the Super Bowl if their defense plays at a high level during the playoffs.
