Tony Finau Making Sixth Start At Kapalua After Rumor-Filled Offseason
4 months agoAs has been the case for at least the past two years now, Tony Finau has been at the forefront of names rumored to be jumping to the LIV Golf League, only to set the story straight by pledging loyalty to the PGA Tour and committing himself to another season. 2024 was perhaps one of the more consistent seasons from a cuts-made perspective, but it lacked several close calls or even a win that we are used to seeing from Finau at this point in his career. His game is in a good place still, with top 5 placements in strokes gained tee to green (+1.330) and on approach (+0.808), but, putting was the largest detriment, ranking 156th in strokes gained putting (-0.296). He's had some success at The Plantation Course, but until he shows resolve with the flat stick, he's certainly not a must-play at $10,700 on FanDuel.

Tony Finau Hoping For Better Approach Play In San Antonio
2 weeks agoOther than a couple of bright spots this season, Tony Finau is struggling to find success in the first half of the season. Most recently, he finished T32 last week in Houston and missed the cut at the Players Championship in the start before that. Approach play has dipped in recent weeks, as he lost over six shots at TPC Sawgrass and was still struggling with it at Memorial Park (-0.29 average). That won't bode well at the Oakes Course this week, especially since he's struggled to find any momentum on the greens since transitioning to bermudagrass. At $10,300 on FanDuel, Finau is a shiny name that may be better to avoid until we see a turnaround.

Tony Finau Misses The Cut At The PLAYERS Championship
3 weeks agoTony Finau missed the cut at The PLAYERS Championship two weeks ago, but he is now focused on preparing for the Texas Children's Houston Open, which will be held at Memorial Park Golf Course. This was Finau's first missed cut in his last three starts. Last year, he finished tied for second at this tournament and won it in 2023, when it was known as the Cadence Bank Houston Open. Over the past 12 months, Finau ranks in the 93rd percentile for proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is significant because, at last year's Texas Children's Houston Open, over 38% of approach shots were taken from this distance. Despite coming off a missed cut, Finau's past success at this tournament could make him a strong candidate for DFS lineups this week.

Tony Finau Aims For Consistency At The PLAYERS Championship
1 month agoAfter missing back-to-back cuts at the American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open, Tony Finau has bounced back with finishes of T13, T5, and most recently T36 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He now turns his attention to THE PLAYERS, an event he has competed in eight times, making the cut four times, including a T45 finish last year. Finau has been inconsistent at TPC Sawgrass, mainly due to poor short-game performances. In his eight appearances, he has lost a combined 10.084 strokes around the green and putting. Fortunately, he currently ranks seventh in strokes gained around the green (0.595 per round) and 70th in putting (0.211 strokes gained per round). However, over the past 12 months, he ranks in just the 39th percentile in proximity from 100-150 yards, a key distance given that 32.3% of all approach shots were hit from this range last year. Given his recent form and efficient short game, Finau could be a solid pick at his $9,200 price tag on DraftKings, but including him in your lineup does carry some risk.

Tony Finau And Bay Hill Could Be A Battle
1 month agoTony Finau has been playing some very good golf over the past two events. The American golfer struck back at Pebble Beach ending up T-13. At The Genesis Invitational, Finau had a bad day with his putter, shot making, and wound up shooting a 76. After that, he was arguably the best golfer on the course. His final round 68 vaulted him into the Top 5 and placed him in the conversation at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Off the tee is troubling with Finau. Driving the ball well and very accurate helps at Bay Hill. Finau ranks 142nd at driving distance (296.5 yards) and only 86th in driving accuracy (59.09%). A slower start and faster finish would surprise few here. Finau might be a weekend DFS choice at Bay Hill.
