Spencer Torkelson's 2025 Role Not Defined
Spencer Torkelson's role for the 2025 season has yet to be defined, according to general manager Scott Harris. The Tigers signed infielder Gleyber Torres on Friday in free agency to be their everyday second baseman next year. Colt Keith, who was the starter at the keystone as a rookie in 2024, will shift over to first base next year. With the 25-year-old Torkelson's role up in the air, the Tigers will most likely look to shop him on the trade market. But if he stays in Detroit, the former top overall pick from Arizona State could end up being on the short side of a platoon at either first base or designated hitter. Torkelson hit 31 homers and drove in 94 in 2023 but took a big step backwards in 2024, was demoted to the minors for a bit and had a .219/.295/.374 slash line with just 10 homers and 37 RBI in 92 games. His stock is way down heading into fantasy drafts next spring.

Spencer Torkelson Sitting For First Time This Year
Spencer Torkelson will get his first day off of the season in Wednesday's series finale against the hosting Houston Astros. Colt Keith will shift to first base and bat fifth, while outfielder Kerry Carpenter handles the DH duties and hits leadoff against Astros right-hander A.J. Blubaugh. Torkelson will get his first day of rest in 2025 after going 4-for-31 in his last nine games. However, the former first overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State has provided fantasy managers with plenty of production through the first month of the season, hitting .243 (26-for-107) with eight home runs, 24 RBI, 20 runs scored and a stolen base in 30 games played. He should be back for Thursday's series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. Nobody in Detroit's starting nine on Wednesday has faced Blubaugh.

Spencer Torkelson Drives In Three On Thursday
Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, three RBI, and a walk in a 6-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. Torkelson plated the first runs of the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning and later came back to add an RBI single in the eighth inning. Torkelson is off to a good start in 2025, hitting .286 with six homers, six doubles, 15 runs, 16 RBI, and a stolen base across 70 at-bats. He remains a solid corner infielder in all fantasy leagues.

Spencer Torkelson Connects On Two-Run Homer
Spencer Torkelson has been a nice surprise for this offense early in the season. Torkelson continued his success at the plate during Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The 25-year-old smacked a two-run home run off Kody Funderburk in the sixth inning to help extend the lead. Torkelson would finish his day 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, and two runs scored in the victory. He's slashing .314/.419/.647 with four home runs and 10 RBI this season. He's red-hot right now so fantasy managers should take advantage of it while they can.

Spencer Torkelson Smacks Game-Winning Hit
Spencer Torkelson was struggling at the plate, but he came up clutch for his team during this game. Torkelson was hitless with one strikeout until he came up in the ninth inning. He smacked a two-RBI double to help give his team the lead in the final frame. It seemed like coming into this season that the Tigers were nearly ready to give up on the former first-overall pick. So far, Torkelson is slashing .324/.439/.618 with two homers and six RBI in the first nine games. He'll likely continue to pick up steam on the waiver wire, assuming his hot streak at the plate continues.
