Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev has been traded to the San Jose Sharks. The Avalanche also departed with forward Nikolai Kovalenko, a 2025 fifth-round pick, and a 2026 second-round pick in the deal, receiving goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood and forward Givani Smith. This is the second goalie deal in a short space of time for the Avalanche, who picked up Scott Wedgewood from Nashville on Nov. 30. With its No. 1, Georgiev, off form, Colorado has registered a league-worst .880 save percentage this season. Georgiev, who's been the league leader in wins for two consecutive seasons, has finished 8-7-0 across 17 starts this campaign. He will need to outplay Vitek Vanecek in San Jose to earn regular playing time.

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev (upper body) will return to the crease on Thursday against Washington. He'll be back between the pipes after sitting out two games with an upper-body injury. Georgiev has won each of his last three starts, although he still carries a losing record with 4-5-0. The 28-year-old has allowed 3.56 goals with a .863 save percentage. It's a difficult matchup for Georgiev on Thursday, but he faces a Capitals team that is without Alex Ovechkin (lower leg), which will significantly improve his chances of extending his current winning streak.

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev (upper body) was placed on Injured Reserve Sunday. He was absent for Friday's clash against Washington due to an upper-body injury, and it's unclear when Georgiev will be ready to return. After landing on Injured Reserve, he will definitely miss Monday's matchup against Philadelphia. Georgiev has won each of his last three starts, improving to 4-5-0 for the year. His inconsistent form has allowed Justus Annunen to make regular starts, but he had a poor outing on Friday, with three goals allowed on eight shots. Trent Miner made his NHL debut in Annunen's relief, turning aside 12 of 13 shots.

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev (upper body) will not dress for Friday's tilt against Washington. He has suffered an upper-body injury, which forces Georgiev to exit the lineup just as he had picked up some form. Following a terrible start to the year, he has won three consecutive outings. The recent run has improved Georgiev's record for the campaign to 4-5-0. His absence gives another start to Justus Annunen, who has impressed this season with a 5-2-0 record. Annunen has a 2.64 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage. The Finnish netminder has been strong between the sticks, but he faces a tough Capitals team that has gone 10-4-1 while averaging the second-most goals in the league (4.13).
