We've just passed the first NFL game of Week 10, meaning the regular season is barely over halfway finished. The NFL's Most Valuable Player award is technically the second-most prestigious title a player can have, but it carries the most weight for their reputations (aside from a Super Bowl ring).
There are a few quarterbacks and one running back who have separated themselves from the rest of the competition, and while the prize is typically given to QBs, even if they're not deserving of it, there are often contenders at non-QB positions. Yes, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey should have won it last year.
Either way, who are the top candidates for NFL MVP, and who will win?

Who Are The Top Candidates For NFL MVP?
The most obvious potential winner is Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. He's thrown for 2,669 passing yards at a ridiculous rate of 9.3 yards per attempt, tossed 24 touchdowns to just two interceptions, boasts a passer rating of 123.2, which would be an NFL record with qualifiers, and rushed for 538 yards and two touchdowns.
Lamar Jackson needs studied.

He's been an unstoppable force in a year where no defenses seem to be immovable objects (at least when they play him). The Ravens offense is rolling and the team is 6-3, well on their way to another playoff berth.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has also been playing at a very high level. So far, he's thrown 17 passing touchdowns to just two picks, and he's close to breaking his team's franchise record for most pass TDs by a quarterback. His team is 7-2 and should cruise into the postseason.
Josh Allen needs four total TDs to surpass Jim Kelly for the most in @buffalobills team history.

One of Jackson's teammates, Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, is seemingly steamrolling every team he's played against this year. He's already rushed for 1,120 yards, scored 14 total touchdowns, and averaged 6.1 yards per carry through 10 games. He's the best running back in the league right now.
Nothing is slowing down Derrick Henry this season.

Technically, he's the most impactful player on his team, just like McCaffrey was last year. His signing has transformed the offense to something only the Kansas City Chiefs can slow down.
Who Will Win NFL MVP This Year?
The competition isn't particularly close right now. Technically, it's the presence and play of Henry that's made it possible for Jackson to play at such a high level. Defenses are stressed to the breaking point by being forced to defend a future Hall of Fame running back and the best running quarterback the league has ever seen.
However, this is an award that's regularly given to a good quarterback on one of the best teams rather than the most impactful player. There isn't much question that No. 8 will earn his third NFL MVP award unless he or Henry gets hurt or something unexpected happens.
