Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring) has logged six seasons playing at least 16 regular-season games in his career, but that won't happen this season. He picked up an injury in the Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The opposing team won this game, 27-21.
Prescott could muster very little offense when he was on the field, throwing for just 133 yards and one touchdown, before being pulled from the game with his ailment. He didn't return. Afterward, he had imaging and medical tests done to determine the severity of his injury. The results weren't good.
So how long will he be out, and when could he return to play?

Dak Prescott Injury Update
After having medical work done to determine the extent of his injury, the Cowboys indicated that they will likely place him on injured reserve, meaning it's all but guaranteed that he'll miss at least four games. This is a crushing blow to an already struggling Dallas team, and it likely won't recover in the playoff race.

His injury was reportedly worse than initially feared. He hurt his hammy simply by throwing a pass, which raises concerns about his ability to stay healthy when simply carrying out routine plays.

When Will Dak Prescott Return And Be Back?
At this point, it would be unreasonable to expect him to return before Week 14. However, there have been reports indicating that it could take longer. He partially tore his hamstring off the bone, which is more serious than a simple strain. Fantasy managers should be prepared for an absence of five or more weeks.
#Cowboys QB Dak Prescott’s initial diagnosis is a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon which is partially torn off the bone, according to Jane Slater. The injury typically takes more than a 4 week recovery. #InjurySpotlight presented by: Orthopedic & Sports Medicine… pic.twitter.com/fiT5UFhB7a

Overall, things aren't looking great for the three-time Pro Bowler and former second-team All-Pro. He could return to a team that's all but eliminated from playoff contention if he does, and that raises the possibility that he could be held out of action for the rest of the season. There isn't much reason for optimism.
UPDATE: Prescott could require season-ending surgery to treat his injury.
