Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. suffered a rib injury during Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. He had three catches for 60 yards and a touchdown at the time he exited.
The rookie out of LSU has quickly established himself as one of the up-and-coming wideouts in the NFL, scoring five touchdowns already this season and averaging 71.6 receiving yards per contest for the Jaguars.
But will Brian Thomas Jr. be available for the Jaguars' Week 9 game against the Philadelphia Eagles? Is Brian Thomas Jr. injured? What is the latest Brian Thomas Jr. injury news?
Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Brian Thomas Jr. caught a touchdown in the third quarter on Sunday, but immediately was injured as he landed on the ball. It went from a moment of joy for the Jags but quickly turned into a moment of concern.
Now, it looks like Thomas could be out for a bit. On Monday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Thomas would miss between two and four weeks with the injury.
#Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. could miss 2-4 weeks with a chest/rib injury suffered Sunday, per sources. Scans today will determine full extent and next steps, though. Thomas is also getting a second opinion.
But there was some confusion later in the day as ESPN's Michael DiRocco reported that the MRI showed "everything was good." DiRocco also reported that head coach Doug Pederson said Thomas is day to day with a contusion and could play this weekend.
Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. is day to day with contusion on left side of his chest, per HC Doug Pederson. MRI did not show anything more severe. Chance he could play this week, Pederson said.
It's a confusing situation that's likely going to go all the way up until Sunday morning.
Brian Thomas Jr. Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 9
Christian Kirk suffered a season-ending injury, so a healthy Brian Thomas Jr. could certainly see his role expand even more, making him a potential WR1 play going forward.
We need to talk about Parker Washington and how he did more in 2 minutes than Christian Kirk has done all season
But the uncertainty of this chest injury makes it tough to sort out his Week 9 status, especially with Jacksonville in the 4:05 p.m. ET game in Week 9.
He's worth playing if he's active, but make sure you have a backup plan, even if that backup plan is to replace him with Jaguars wide receiver Parker Washington, who has some upside if Thomas is ruled out.
